Thanks..I got off my lazy fingers and actually went to the ACER website.

The laptop I had (a 2004 model) was donated and it finally frogged out a few months back. And so I don't have that "side" unit where I can play streaming audio while multi-tasking on my desktop.

My desktop is pretty sturdy, but lacks the muscle for me to do streaming audio and also run a spreadsheet and browser without slowness

Don't order one online without seeing it in person. They are tiny! Small keyboard and screen. Also they all use these very lightweight processors - culv's - which stands for compact ultra low voltage I think. Anyway they don't produce a lot of heat or draw much energy, but they can't handle anything but the most basic processing needs. Video is apparently a big problem...

The next generation of netbooks will be 12/13 inches with a little more horsepower for about $100 more, so do your rsch.

You know, I was looking at some of the newest one recently -- models with screens about that size and larger keyboards, etc. -- and I can't make up my mind about them. They're in the price range where a person could get a low-end regular laptop and it seems like the netbooks have disadvantages compared to the laptops in the same price range. No optical drives, etc. It seems like the only real benefit is longer battery life. And sometimes that can be impressive -- I was checking out a new Acer that can go 8 hours on a charge.
