Another false narrative.

Truth is that Pence was invited there for Peyton Manning's ceremony. You probably are not making the connection that Indiana is not only his home state, but he served in the US Congress for Indiana before becoming Governor, from which he became Donald Trump's choice of VP.

He has every right to stand by and for the flag and anthem and those who died for them. His response to those disrespecting our country, was to walk out. I would expect nothing less from a Vice President of the United States. Some, most, of us applaud his reaction to those ingrates. And if you condone their actions, that means you too.

Talk about a false narrative, yeesh!

It is not the flag of the United States military, it is the American flag. It belongs to all Americans. When they play the national anthem, it is not just the anthem of the veterans or the people who died in battle. The anthem is the anthem for all Americans.

There are many ways to be patriotic that have nothing to do with the military, taking a stand to fight an injustice being just one of them.

No other symbol on earth represents freedom as much as the American Flag does. None. Zip. Nada. It is American principles of individual freedom that spread across the planet that largely eliminated most slavery in the world. It is the ideals of America, symbolized by that flag that has so many people living in actual oppression working as hard as they can to find a way into this country. It is the principles of our Constitution symbolically waving ... the principles that should bind us, even in our political difference. The basic principles. It is a symbol of the sacrifice that some have made with their lives, that others have made by living by our concepts of our right to swing our arms ending at someone else's nose, that symbol of opportunity that our lives are what we make them, of American exceptionalism and American moral authority.

In other words, it is the oddest symbol, on the entire planet, to protest when your protest is about oppression.

That's one of several things I find offensive about it all.

Even in the event that you think America is not living up to their ideal standard, the Flag also represents the ideal standard. It is the beacon of freedom across the globe (or was).

I think we are horrifically flawed as a nation .. our government is corrupt, we are too influential in other countries affairs, we over tax our populace, our government steals freedoms from individuals on a daily basis with no intent of returning them, we have government run ponzi schemes of progressive taxation, social security, Medicare and are well on our way to the biggest of them all, single payor healthcare, we create dependents to strengthen the control of government over our populace, we have neutered our free press watchdog into politically factional propaganda mechanisms, we have unequal treatment in our justice system based on gender and ethnicity, ..... BUT I WOULD NEVER DISRESPECT WHAT THAT FLAG ACTUALLY REPRESENTS, lest we forget what America has always been striving to become, even when our institutions are failing us.

Protest any other time, and I will be pissed that you are bringing politics into my escape from politics but I at least won't despise you for it .. and at least I won't boycott your sport for it.

As for what I think they are protesting, or at least some of them, I think that I agree that we have some degree of inequality within our justice system from point of contact with police, to decision on whether to prosecute, to likelihood of conviction, to sentence given upon conviction and to early release. It should be addressed. It does get better as the culture becomes more and more ethically advanced with regards to racism, though we appeared to take a step back the last 9 years. But I can't get on board with a group of assholes protesting during the national anthem and presentation of our flag. And as a fan, they are spitting in my face as a customer. In America, despite my love of football, there are other options for entertainment for me when you disrespect me. i will select those options until you quit doing it, apologize and play football.

They are protesting what they perceive as systematic racism in our society. How can you claim they are liars when you aren't them.

because millionaires living the life of excess privilege who are adored and worshiped and are celebrities CANNOT COMPLAIN about oppression and racism, they are victims of neither on some sort of systematic nationwide basis (which doesn't exist for anyone anywhere in the country)

it's as fake as fake gets

now everyone will meet an asshole, we all have and you can't let assholes ruin your day. You do the right thing in your life and you move on, you simply count your blessings and you have to have thicker skin (no pun intended). Laugh at the assholes, time will do it's thing and you can't legislate utopia.

This nonsense started to protest SYSTEMATIC NATIONWIDE RACISM by law enforcement, that's as big a lie as any politician ever told

Because their claims are lies. I can not be a young black man and still point out factually that "Hands up, Don't shoot" was a lie. I can point out Trayvon wasn't killed for wearing a hoodie. I can point out that whites are more likely to be killed by police than blacks (population adjusted). I can point out Michael Bennett lied about his encounter with the LVPD.

Everything they're claiming is a lie. So, that makes them liars.

When you read statistical data, it shows their narrative is based on a falsehood.

You have no idea why Trayvon Martin was killed and neither do I, so that really isn't a fact. Also, not defending Bennet, but from what I read you only saw a portion of the footage...though I don't care about him anyway.

As far as what percentage of whites and blacks are killed by police, just because whites are killed at a higher rate does not mean that blacks are not prejudiced, treated differently in certain circumstances, or even shot because of the color of their skin. The two are mutually exclusive. And I'm not saying it's widespread, I'm saying I don't know. There are shit cops everywhere you go, but I hope that they are in the minority. Does one racist cop who says don't worry, we only shoot blacks prove their point? No. Do your examples prove your point? No.

Where did I say that?

Below....or either you are trying that liberal filth spin you guys always spew.

I always find it strange that those who claim to stand for America and all of its freedoms are so opposed to people expressing their opinions. Of course a lot of the people so upset about players kneeling during the anthem have expressed support for white nationalists and supremacists right to speak or gather or chant their racist views. I agree that they should also be afforded the same protections if done in a peaceful manner, it just strikes me as funny that many here show support for them. Kind of confirms the bias expressed by the players IMO.

So do you think there would be a problem if they stood there with the fist in the air? Probably not. Kneeling is disrespectful. Protesting the flag and anthem is disrespectful. So....who are these people that express support for so called supremacists that specifically approve of free speech and also approve of kneeling during the anthem.

You are simply trying to make a weak political point by connecting two events that are not remotely the same. I will tell you this, most normal Americans don't agree with racists people....and if it was your white boogey-man kneeling for the anthem you would get the same result.

When trying to make a point, I would suggest connecting to incidents that are similar.....not one for free speech and another for disrespecting the country.

Who invited Pence to the Colts game?
"I believe he was there to present an award." Sarah Sanders.

So someone's still waiting to get it?

Very well thought out and written. I endorse virtually everything you said.

Now let's get an equally well thought out and written response from those who support the protesters protesting during the anthem.
