Hey all teams are losing. Give BC credit for finding a way to win against a good team on the road. Ryan made the big plays to win. Still undefeated and not many teams are.

I agree about their defense but I am sorry that was far from a Heisman winning type performance. A great ending and a decent performance but it doesnt excuse being SHUTOUT for 58 minutes.

the talent around Ryan is about 80% of what normal Heisman candidates have.

Heisman winners are allowed an off game or two, and he even won this one, on the road, against the number 8 team in the country

what else can you ask for???

he won the game.

dude you said it best...they found a way to win when many have or have come close to 2 losses...im sure if lsu hadnt gotten lucky to beat auburn and were sittin with 2 losses right now there would still be MORONS calling them the best team in the country...BC is 8-0 and that win was huge vs a top10 VT on the road... they 100% deserve the ranking they have right now...

His defense and his special teams (onside kick) won this game for them. I didnt even bet the game and really dont care but lets call it like it is. QB's and coaches get way too much credit and blame on outcomes of games.

I will give hime credit for winning the game but the thread is titled "Matt Ryan just won the Heisman" and that is what I am arguing, off this performance?

Not sure where you are coming from as you say you can have off games *(which I agree with), was this an off game or a Heisman winning performance, I say FAR from that.

I'm saying it was an off game (against a great defense) and he still found a way to win the game. Of course he had some help (VT's offense is terrible) with the onside kick, but he still finished the job. And he made the game winning pass TWICE, the first of course brought back by a holding call which he would have ran around anyway.

He may be the winner by default at this point, hes still the winner.

Heisman trophy winners are the ones that win these type of games.

Heisman trophy winners are typically on winning teams and they have memorable performances.
Stats are usually secondary.

he still has a LONG way to go win the heisman bc a loss will knock him out...their schedule is brutal i dont care if they are playing teams who arent at their best as in previous years...

FSU
at Turtles
at Clemson
Miami

they will or should be favored (small at clemson) in the final 4 games but then they still have the ACC title game so thats 5 IMO quality opponents ina row, i think that may be the toughest 5 games in a row ever....

I do not agree with the title of thread. Do you? That is the point.

Heisman trophy winners put up solid numbers in games like this not what i just watched. Sorry i thought the OVERALL game was nothing special on his behalf. Still have alot of CFB football left for players to put up Heisman type performances and if this is the standard than i say someone else will emerge.

I think most are trying to spin this into a Doug Flutie thing and it isnt.

and you can say the EXACT REVERSE of that with Andre ware, Barry Sanders, Ty Detmer. There is no exact science to this.

Barry Sanders had many memorable moments. There is no Barry Sanders this year.

Detmer barely won over Rocket Ismail who should have been nowhere near that trophy.

Ware won in a year with inferior competition. The runner up that year was a running back from Indiana for godsakes.

Fact is Heisman votes like those highlight moments and winners:

Witness:
Gino Torretta over Marshall Faulk
Charles Woodson over Peyton Manning
Eric Crouch over Rex Grossman
Desmond Howard over Casey Weldon

I could go on and on, but all had far inferior stats but were A) on winning teams and B) had one or more highlight or "holy shit" moments.

Not sure i would put Desmond Howard in that group. Howard set or tied 5 NCAA records his heisman season. He scored 138 points, which led the Big Ten. He produced as big numbers as anyone reciever in the game that year and deserved the Heisman as he was clearly the best player on the field that year.

Matty Ice! Couldn't find a nicer kid to be in this spot. Even competing for the trophy, couldn't be more proud.

And what do you remember of that year? Desmond doing the Heisman pose. That basically ended the race that year.

Howard is a statistical aberration as wide receivers don't usually rate on the Heisman radar. Hence who he beat, Casey Weldon.

What I remember that year is desmond howard scoring a TD every game as I was a huge Michigan fan. He was unstoppable. That is my point, he won it because of the huge season he put up at a predominately running team, which made it even more impressive.

The pose was late in the last game of the year for him, he had it sewed up by then. He won the vote by a 4-1 margin, one of the bigger margins.

Anyways nice going back and forth with this but my whole point was Matt Ryan's perormance tonite wasnt heisman level in my eyes, not even close. Who knows we shall see. I am going to bed. good nitehola

I went to my first college football game this year when BC hosted Army. Very cool experience... and I look pretty cool in my BC ball cap and shirts. Who knew they were any good.

Tebow deserves the Heisman by a mile. He is almost like a single wing tailback of the past. The last singlewing tailback to compete for the Heisman was Johnny Majors. Tebow is a throwback and the most exciting QB in college football in a long time. Ryan played a miserable game until the last 2 minutes.
