I called it too. But it wasn't exactly a groundbreaking prediction. Both Tiger was out and Phil didn't make it to the weekend. That automatically takes care of the fair weather front runner golf fans. But the golf purists will always watch it, no matter who is playing the Masters. This will most likely happen in the 3 other Majors too. But the longer Tiger is out and is not winning the Major golf tournaments, the fans will eventually start looking for the next superstar. It happened after Palmer and Nicklaus, it will happen after Tiger.

But... but.. but... Skip Clueless says golf is dead without Tiger. Yeah right Skippy. After Tiger retires there will no longer be any golf on TV. I don't know what that sport was that I used to watch every week on CBS back in the 70's and 80's.

It doesn't matter. Golf is bigger than it's ever been. It's not going anywhere. The Masters sure a hell doesn't care.

I'll give you two reasons to guess why he started this thread. And one of them isn't because he's half Asian.

No Tiger, Phil and for the most part no Rory didnt help, but thats not the whole story. Part of the problem was that there was no drama, after the front side, the tourney was basically over. Plus, it was the first nice weekend in the northeast, after being cooped up indoors all winters, many decided to enjoy the warm weather

It was beautiful here in GA. Weather always plays a big role here with TV watchers during the day. The course was once again packed on Friday and once again the merchandise was sold out by 10 am.

Dont think the golf fans care what the TV ratings are.

Please understand this...... Obviously the PGA Tour will be Ok post-Tiger. Because ...
It was when Tiger started to gain fans.... and, Tiger was NEVER anywhere near as relevant in history as Arnie or Jack! FACT

This also would happen with a 3-0 or 3-1 lead in a team sport

I agree about Jack and Arnie and the history of the game. But with Tiger it was more about how he changed the purses in golf due to his popularity. Arnie did too, but never to the extent that Tiger did. In 1995 golfers were getting $100,000 for first place in a tournament. After Tiger came on the scene, by 2000 that winning purse went up to around a million dollars. So in less than a decade, golf purses grew by ten times. I can't think of any other professional sport in history that changed as rapidly in terms of money as the PGA Tour did after Tiger arrived. When you've made that kind of impact on a sport that never has been popular among the masses, people are going to miss you when your gone. But most of the people like that are like the one who started this thread. They are casual fans and very blase about the rest of the tour since they pay little attention to the game of golf. The rest of us who have played golf for many years love golf for what it is, a great game. I enjoyed it just as much in Jack and Arnie's day as I do now.
