In my lifetime, Ole Miss has done nothing to earn my respect. Nothing. Their last SEC Championship was in 1963. Ole Miss, to me, has always represented a program expecting respect but having done nothing to earn it. Sure, they may have been great in the 50's and 60's...but what about SINCE the Nixon Administration? Sorry...I disrespect Ole Miss. The fact that they've managed to put together a WAC-like offense this year and beaten some teams doesn't scare me. This is a one man show, and with our defense, his show's about to end it's four year run in Oxford. Now for the really fun part: Ole Mrs has a pass defense that ranks 116th out of 117 Div. I schools! And don't bring up that damn Texas Tech loss as the one game that generated their piss-poor ranking...because if you threw out that game entirely, Ole Mrs would still rank 100th!! THAT is not the kind of smell that you want in your package…especially when you are facing the LSU receivers. LSU will put on an offensive show this Saturday and you are all welcome to join them.

Here’s a little inside scoop concerning motivation for you guys thinking that the Tigers might be flat this weekend….

LSU has a premier defensive end named Marquise Hill (6’-8” 290 lbs.). Marquise Hill and Eli Manning both went to school in uptown New Orleans and their teams were rivals. When asked if he was looking forward to this game, Marquise said…."all I'm gonna say is, I’m coming for him and it’s gonna be ugly, thats all I gotta say". And before any of you Yankees gets started…..I don't care how much bulletin board material we give them, Ole Miss is going down faster than Paris Hilton this weekend.
LSU comes out fired up and runs them out of there early.

LSU 42 -17

Well, Pete, I respect you as a capper and you've always been a pleasant, entertaining, and successful poster. I guess being a fan of a university about 4 times larger than Ole Miss, and with an athletic budget with about the same ratio, it's easy to disrespect the smaller player. And, it's probably true that your team of highly recruited superstars will give the Rebs a super hard time, as you say. However, these Rebs are good kids with a lot of heart, and they won't go down without a fight. I'm not saying I'm betting against you -- I frankly haven't decided yet. I just want to say that this bunch of Ole Miss kids don't deserved to be disrespected. They've worked hard to be where they are, and even if the Tigers do wipe them out, they deserve the respect of enjoying, in their own way, a great season. With that said, good luck in taking on Eli. You have to admit, if you had him at QB, you'd be playing against Oklahoma for the National Championship. With him against you in Oxford this week, there is just the slightest chance that you just might lose.

Although I have nothing against you and also enjoy your posts.....this is Ole Miss/LSU week...so it's game face time!

Now, with that in mind, here's one of my favorite stories from this rivalry.

LSU was 6-0 in 1972 and had its eyes set on another SEC championship. The Tigers trailed 16-10 in the final minutes until quarterback Bert Jones drove his team the length of the field, and on a play that began with 10 seconds left, Ole Miss was called for pass interference. That gave LSU a first down at the Mississippi 10-yard line with four seconds remaining. LSU ran a play with 4 seconds on the clock. After a Bert Jones incompletion, the clock still showed 1 second left. Jones then calmly threw a game tying TD pass to Brad Davis as time ran out. The extra point was good and LSU won 17-16. The next morning, the Jackson, Miss. newspaper ran a headline that read "Ole Miss 16 - LSU 10 (+7)" in reference to their displeasure with the clock management in Baton Rouge. Well, the next year in 1973, LSU beat the living crap out of the Webbles in Jackson…..final score was LSU 51 - 14. The Headline in the Times Picayune the next day read "Ole Miss 14 - LSU 13 (+7 +7 +7 +7 +7 +3)". That is my favorite story regarding the LSU/OM series.

I got it at -6.5, but now I see it at 7 at most books. I don't see the line coming back down....but if it does I'll go back for seconds.

Here's my favorite story:

2002: Ole Miss 13 LSU 14 (Ole Miss covers)
2001: Ole Miss 35 LSU 24 (Ole Miss covers)
2000: Ole Miss 9 LSU 20 (LSU covers)
1999: Ole Miss 42 LSU 23 (Ole Miss covers)
1998: Ole Miss 37 LSU 31 (Ole Miss covers)

4-1 ATS in last 5 meetings. (3 of 5 games were in Baton Rouge.) Don't see why that didn't win any respect.

Looking forward to this one.

LSU have won me money this year but beware the Rebels. They have had a week to rest and the way Eli is playing 7 points at home maybe to much for LSU to cover. Mississippi ain't no Alabama, they are not going to lay down for LSU. This is going to be a good one. I see a score of 28-24 LSU.

I'm talking about THIS year...the past doesn't mean shit...unless you want to factor in ALL of the games, and not just the ones in which ya'll did well. If you want to take it all in to account, I say that Ole Miss hasn't won an SEC championship since Kennedy was assassinated.

Well, Pete, you got me there. I was just responding to your statement that in your lifetime Ole Miss had done nothing to win your respect. If you start comparing lifetime achievement awards between the two schools, well you got me beat all to hell. Anyway, just joshing with you. Good luck on your play. Just don't count on it being a blowout. The Rebs are ready and the Tigers will definitely get their best shot. I know LSU has the better talent. We'll just have to see how it works out. Glad it's on TV and should be a great game. Take care.

Reb,

Don't go PC on me! You laid out some good smack and I love it...keep it coming.

Now, for those of you skeptical of laying the 7 points....

Much has been said (by the media) about the match-up of the SEC's #1 offense (ole miss) going up against the SEC's #1 defense (LSU). However, do you guys realize that this game also pits the SEC's #2 offense (LSU) against the SEC's worst defense. This one could very well be over by half-time!

The only way Ole Miss can keep it close is if they give Eli some time in the pocket. After watching LSU play the last couple of weeks, I don't see how they can. I know many won't agree, but LSU is the second best team in the nation, and has a good chance to whip Oklahoma if they play them.
