Cedarcreaker.... and all of you with doubts...

THE STATS DON'T LIE.....THEY CORROBORATE REALITY. REALITY IS THAT OLE MISS HAS THE #116 PASS DEFENSE IN AMERICA, AND THEY HAVE THE #77 OVERALL DEFENSE.

LSU has averaged 35 points a game and 496.5 yard of offense since their loss to Florida. Is there any reason to believe that LSU won't surpass those figures against the Ole Miss defense? Is there any reason at all to believe Ole Miss can score that much against the #1 scoring defense in the country? Given the fact that Manning has demonstrated a propensity to assume a fetal position under pressure I don't even see this one as being close.

pete,
i agree with you 100%. the lsu pass rush is too strong and manning will have no time to hit his over-rated recievers. anyone who was watching last week vs Bama knows what i mean. while Eli manning is better under pressure than Brodie Croyle, there is nothing he can do when that pocket keeps colapsing on him. defense wins games and lsu has just as good of a D as anyone in the country... even Oklahoma. there, i said it. this game won't even be close. lsu takes it 48-13

OK Pete let me ask you a couple questions.
icon_confused.gif
.1) would you rate this game as high a probability of covering as the Alabama game?? and 2)who would win today (OLE Miss won by 14 earlier) between Ala and Ole Miss IYO...understanding they are 2 different teams to play....Alabama provided absolutely no competition for LSU and for awhile LSU let them hang around even though they were really never in the game...Ole Miss can score!! and is a much better coached and talented team than Ala. and am little concerened that if LSU lets them hang around early it could be painful?? Just curious..trying to be confident..

Yes, I rate this selection as high as last week's selection.....maybe even a tad higher.

You guys should know that when I select a game it comes from only two factors...statistics and motivation. Statistics NEVER lie and you can build a sizeable bankroll by playing those alone. Don't believe me? Check out BIGPETE or BIGDADDYNOLE. Those two guys go to work all week with their lunch-box, crunching numbers and consistently bang out wins. So, here is how I break down this game:

Statistics:

If you want numbers, look at my previous posts. The bottom line is not the #1 Ole miss offense against the #1 LSU defense...it's the complete opposite. Ole Miss plays a ball control, dink and dunk, short passing game. Their QB goes through his reads well and doesn't hold the ball for a long time. This lends itself to methodical drives that culminate in points. They also have the best field goal kicker in America, so Ole Miss can play between the 20's and still score plenty of points. However, they will have to perform this against one of the nation's premier defenses...and I suspect they will score more points than any other team has against LSU. The problem is that LSU is the SEC's #2 offense...and they aren't going against a premier defense...quite the opposite. LSU is going to score HUGE on the Rebels...easily. Check out Ole Miss’ defensive numbers…they will not be able to do anything to stop the Tigers

Motivation:

Last week, LSU was very motivated to skull drag the Tide, because of what happened during and especially after their game last year. It is one thing to stomp a team at home, but it is just plain stupid to give them the belt on the way out the door...especially a conference opponent that you'll see every year. Bama did just that, and the Tigers hated them for it. The bad news for Bama was that LSU was in a position to pound them...and they did. Now, LSU does not have a revenge factor for the Ole Miss game, but in this case, that is actually a good thing. As a former player, I can tell you that enthusiasm by an underdog does not sustain itself for 60 minutes...it actually builds to a fever pitch and then drains you. Now, Ole Miss has had two weeks of anticipation for this game and they’re building it to be their big game of the decade! They’re torn between desire to make it to the SEC Championship game (for the first time) and dropping the #3 ranked Tigers. LSU however is taking a methodical one game approach to their preparation (Saban is renowned for preaching the “process instead of the result”) because a win over Ole Miss does NOT guarantee them a trip to Atlanta. So, you can expect to see Ole Miss come out fired up and you will see LSU methodically hammer them for four quarters.

Like your pick on this one. I don't think Miss offense will be able to perform well against the LSU defense.

You made me some $ last week, so I'm going to let 50% of last weeks profit ride on this one.

Lockline,I have no opinion on this game, but Pete did predict Florida's upset of LSU and won a lot of money for Rx members.

Lockline,

I post 5 or 6 selections every Saturday morning that have nothing to do with LSU. However, I do have several friends on the staff at LSU and this gives me an idea of what the players motivation might be during the week prior to their game. You're correct, I have touted LSU quite a bit this season, five times to be exact (Az., Ga., Miss. St., La. Tech and Bama) and they have all been winners. But, if I see any reason at all to go against them, I do it...AND I let the guys here know about it.

Now, what's your problem?

Personally, I could care less who wins this game. Pete just make sure ya'll take care of Jimbo for the next few weeks. And tell him to pack warm clothes. It gets a little colder in Starkville than in Baton Rouge. I've heard its pretty much a foregone conclusion that Jimbo is our new head coach next year, but I've heard that Muschamp is coming also. I don't see why he would, but would love to have him. Whats your take on this?

I think it would be a good move for him....if the money is right. From what I've heard, the $$$ aren't there yet. He has the same agent as Coach Saban and Coach tubberville...and that guy knows his stuff when it comes to contracts. You can forget about Will Muschamp though...he's not going anywhere.

Statedogg could be correct about Muschamp following Fisher to Starkville if Saban goes to the NFL.

Not gonna happen.

Statedogg should be praying that Tuberville keeps his job....if the Aubies shit-can Tommy, and offer Jimbo he'll take it.

By the way, this has NOTHING to do with betting on the Ole Miss/LSU game....so let's drop it.

Consider this....

I have no idea what happened after the Texas Tech game, but since then the Ole Miss defense has been much better. During the 6 game winning streak the defense is giving up 225 yds/game passing (verses LSU's 199) and 112 yds/game rushing (verses LSU's 61). I would suggest that while LSU's defensive numbers are great, they have not seen an offense as prolific as the Rebels offense.

Based on the above, I believe this game could come down to turnovers. On the year, LSU is +2 and Ole Miss is +5. Not much difference.

So beware.....this game could go either way.

I'm out.

I meant to include a few other stats...
The 2 games during the win streak that the Rebels have given up over 250 yds passing, they jumped out to huge leads (Bama and South Carolina) and were in prevent midway through the 2nd quarter.
