The NFL is going to have a big f'in problem with these veterans taking their lives. Obviously, I'm speculating here but there is a trend developing here.

Very Sad.

Junior was a beast, a tremendous player and a good man.

Very Sad. However when you mention veterans, More soldiers in the war in Afghanistan have committed suicide then have actually been killed in the war itself. Unfortunately none of them gets one ounce of the publicity Jr.Seau gets.. Bill Maher had someone on his show This past Friday and said in certain states veterans are waiting over 60 days for a mental health appointment.. Thats just unacceptable.

3 kids? And he does this? He is an idiot. He didn't even seek help. These 3 kids are going to grow up with no father, he is a piece of shit in my book.

How come boxers don't end up with the same concussion issues later in life like these football and hockey players deal with? I think what happened in these sports in the past is they would get concussions and the doctors would just sugarcoat the injury and say they just got their bell rung. So they play the next week and suffer another concussion while still not getting over the previous one.

I don't think Seau's suicide was related to concussions. I think he just couldn't transition into the next aspect of his life after football. The NFL needs to find a way to keep more of the former players active and relevant in the business after they retire. A hockey, baseball or basketball player can play their profession for many years after their superstar days are over in different leagues and in other countries. In football they cut you and the next thing you know you have to buy a ticket to the game just like the rest of us.

No way to stop concussions in the NFL. It's not really just the blows to the head, but other types of hits can cause the brain to move around inside the head. These players today know the ramifications of playing, but they love the sport and the money to stop playing.

I think about all they can do is remove a player if he shows any signs of a concussion, which the league started to implement however long ago.

That's what they said about Duerson and then they found his brain was so badly damaged that he was similar to an Alzheimer patient. I'm sure that if the family allows a biopsy of the brain the same will be found in Junior.

I don't think that this has shit to do with transitioning into society.

And the dude who called him a piece of shit -- may you never experience mental illness. You my friend - are an asshole. GO FUCK YOURSELF.

I still say that non-concussion related mental health issues, money, pussy and drugs/alcohol (not necessarily in that order) are the primary cause of most of these NFL suicides (as they are in the general population).

From the accounts that I've read, those close to him say that Seau never seemed to have issues pertaining to concussions. He did have problems with his ex-wife and girlfriends though....Would Dave Duerson still be alive had he not blown through his fortune and been forced to file bankruptcy? I say that there is at least a chance.

When Mike Flanagan shot himself last summer, the press immediately tried to angle it toward the fact that he was despondent in his 'failure' as Orioles GM. Later it came out that he had struggled with depression and financial difficulties. This seems to be the case with most of these NFL suicides as well.

Now I've heard he shot himself in the head so they could study his brain. I doubt this is true though but it would make sense.

I know this is just anecdotal, but when I played football in high school, our fullback was carted off the field in an ambulance 4 times from our sophomore to senior year, each time for a massive concussion. Every time he was back at practice on Monday.

Now dude is very unstable and violent. A few years back he would send the most vile pictures and jokes via text. One day he sent me a picture of a guy with his own dick in his ass. I ask in a joking manner to please unsubscribe me from his "Pictures of Guys With Their Own Dick in Their Ass" message service. He flipped out and sent a stream of rage filled texts. I firmly believe the head injuries he sustained while playing contribute to his instability.

May Junior Seau rest in peace. And I don't know how to say this without sounding selfish but I hope the advancements in brain science come before they change football into a completely different sport.

Yeah, sorry that's what I meant. He shot himself in the chest so the brain could be intact.
