Rome today was stating that if the allegations are true that Phil has ran up a lot of gambling debts, then that is a big problem. Meaning he is a major public sports figure. And, like it or not, a role model, ala, Michael Jordan. As far as gamblers in general, Jim has always stated that he has no problem with people who gamble, he has a problem with those who bet their rent money etc., and have lost their job, home, wife etc...If you are going to tell it, tell it straight! rome was talking of phils gambling and said that the commissioner of the pga...would have a hard time with it because it sets a bad example....he was also referring to phil wagering on himself...rome did however make a dumb analogy that a golfer betting on himself is like rose betting on the reds to lose...rome admits to laying a few $$$ now and then when in vegas and does not find it to be offensive to gamble...only the amount...and that was what phils story today was about...not the gamble but the amount...to much...and then the story goes...phils $100,000 is like $20.00 to many of us...bottom line is rome shows his politically correct side more now than in the past..
Agree kermit, especially when it comes to Sportsbetting, he believes it can't be done and rags on people who try to do it. he doesn't know enough about what some of us do to make that opinion. As proof, how many times have you ever heard Rome say " So and So was on my show last week and look how bad my Karma was as his team got slaughtered" ? That's what I thought Pal... i'll tell you why rome has an issue with phil mickelson. he has to go thru phils sister tina for an interview and in so cal sports radio both tinas and phils allegiances belong to the hometown station in san diego and 1090am.tina mickelson is a playa in the san diego golf scene and has huge status. when 690 was still in sd the loose cannons(hartman/forte)had tina on every week and on occasion she delivered phil to the show. after chet died and 690 moved to L.A. tina became a regular on 1090 and recently got phil on again. smart athletes know what they get in rome.they hear him. that includes his bashings from an air conditioned studio in burbank surrounded by his mindless minnions. you can be a fan of rome but just remember alot of good people made him what he is now and not 1 of those people would get a sip of water in the burning desert if rome came across them and to prove that tell me the last time anyone from his early days in sd ever called.they dont.i know too much about this guy.~RG

true story: opening weekend of the 1999 NFL season. i attend my ONLY broncos' game in denver - the MNF game vs. miami where they retired elway's number at halftime. i am sitting in the South Stands - which is pretty well known for being what it is.
after the game there is the usual mad rush to the men's room by a lot of the guys there. the "spots" to stand up are all taken. one guy decides he can't wait anymore so he is gonna pee into the trash container. right above the trash container is a picture of Rome - inside a protective cover - for his radio show. the guy taking the leak into the can sees rome's pic and pees ON THE PIC instead of in the can so the "liquid" goes directly on rome and then into the can.
my bro and i died laughing seeing this - but it was so appropriate it was nice to see. my guess is had rome been at the game (and by the way - the next sporting event rome attends will be his first - and that's a fact so this is pure fantasy) rome would have dove in front of the pic to avoid it being "hit" and potentially ruining the pic. actually - he would have tried to get one of his mindless clones to do it - and my guess is one of them would have done it, too.
rome could fall into shark infested waters wearing bloody a red meat swimsuit and the sharks would leave him alone - professional courtesy!
