Not much of a chance IMO.

Out of all the contenders the last 20 years he is probably one of the biggest longshots. This year has tougher competition then most. Plus both statistically and using the eyeball test there doesn't seem like anything overly special about AP. Even horses who faced inferior competition and crushed the field in the Derby and Preakness haven't been able to complete the Triple Crown. I'm not sure why so many on here are expecting a horse that just eeked out a victory with a good trip in the derby is going to do it.

Frosted had the fastest closing 1/4 mile time just ahead of Materielity and Keen Ice in the Derby. With the extra rest I think both Frosted and Keen Ice will be dangerous in the Belmont if they run.

I will take the +220 odds. I did not sniff at the +220 odds on Pacquaio. American Pharoah is worth the risk.

I agree, nowadays if a horse wins the 1st 2 legs, too many well rested , trained assassins who sat out of the derby / Preakness will be sent out to make it almost impossible to win the belmont

For you guys that follow horse......

Was the timing always like this between the 3 Triple Crown races? Or...... is it just the new puss thing to do...... laying out of races 1 and 2..... or maybe just 2..... and trying to steal the 3rd?

Posted the answer in your thread, always has been the format. 2 weeks between the Derby and Preakness and 3 weeks later the Belmont

It's always been the same format in the modern era. Three races 5 weeks. Back in the old days they seemed to run the same field of horses in all 3 races more than they do today. You also didn't have as many trainers who had a full fleet of horses like Baffert and Todd Pletcher do. They enter 2 or 3 different horses in each race. Each with different running styles. Baffert pretty much owned the Derby this year. with his front runner horse Dortmund setting the pace and finishing third, and his off the pace horse Pharoah winning. Trainers seem to have many more choices these days. So it will probably take a freak of a horse like a Secretariat to win the triple crown. Or at least close to a Secretariat. Smarty Jones was one of the best horses that I've seen in the last 20 years. He had a perfect running style for the triple crown races. And he still fell short. I think it can still be done, but it's going to take having a horse that is extremely strong and durable mixed with a little racing luck.

I forgot the Preakness was even going today...but those odds say it all.
this is an ideal time for a horse to win the triple crown...when no one expected it right?
seems like easy money.
lock it

We will finally have a Triple Crown Winner.....

AP will dominate the Belmont.

Not 1 horse from the Derby or Preakness is good enough to beat him in the Belmont.

These are his 4 horses......

Materiality,Carpe Diem,Competitive Edge and Stanford.

Those 4 horses have no shot.....All 4 got killed in the Derby by AP.
