Iowa actually jumped over Purdue for Alamo Bowl. Purdue was 5th best in Big 10 by record, but going to 6th best bowl. Also, what I am hearing is Iowa vs Missouri which would be a big deal since these two have been at it because Mizzou dropped them from schedule.

The Penn State ass-kissing radio announcer was bragging on Saturday that it was impressive that Penn State was going to its 3rd 'January' bowl game in 5 years! This is something to be proud of for a school that emphasizes and has had the football history of PSU?! Reaching aren't we. 8-4 by beating all the cripples on their schedule including 1-AA Youngstown State and (should be) Division 2 Temple. Also, the New Years Day games, while they used to be a distinction, are really second level games now. But, they do give us something to bet on and stave off the inevitable gap between Football and spring training!

Yeah, it's great. Bring a 6-6 team to a bowl game. They will spend as much money as they bring in. Bring the band and school officials that could give a shit about the football program. Give them all a few days in the sun while the players have to practice for another month. Great excuse for the coaches to have a second spring practice only in the early winter. I wonder how many of the upperclassmen would vote to go. I would bet money (it's OK to say that on this site isn't it) that on a team like Iowa where there were high expectations and they've been to bowl games every year, there would be quite a few players vote against going after the season they had. They should pay the players out of the bowl payback. They deserve it rather than bringing some gay tuba player or a chemistry professor who has no clue about football. Just my opinion.

One of your better posts.

Another solid year for Kirk Ferentz...

There is absolutely no reason for this team finishing as bad as 6-6.

I was fortunate to go to 2 bowl games and the players do receive money. It is a stipend, but it is still a nice chunk of change for a college athlete. We spent most of ours on a wild night of strippers in our hotel room pulling tricks I didn't know were possible.

I think CY himself played in the Peach Bowl for the Cyclones.........not 100% certain though.

The stipends college athletes receive are awesome. Hmmm....I could spend my $30 meal at Outback or go to McDs for $5 and have $25 extra. Those extra $25 add up for a college kid!

The bowl stipend was much more than the normal stipend also. I believe we received $600 for the week and all meals were already provided.

Maybe if Iowa had anything else going for it people would not travel for this team so much.

Don't you live in Detroit???

I can't say Iowa is high on my list of places to live, but it ranks well above Detroit. :missingte

Iowa winning BOWL record.

OHIO STATE and MICHIGAN........both losing bowl records

Michigan
39-10-4 all time against Iowa. Including 8-2 since 1993

OSU
11-2-1 in the last 14 vs. Iowa

Mich and OSU have 18 national championships with 1 more on the way. whats Iowa got? 0 I believe.

Maybe your bowl record is good (11-9-1 all time) because the best bowl you can muster since you can't beat Mich and OSU is the outback bowl. While they are playing for rose bowls and national championships, much like this year.

It is all BCS BS. The system for setting up these bowls is ridiculous. At least it is something to bet on but to think a team like Louisville could be ranked above Michigan for the national title game is ridiculous (if Louisville didn't lose to Rutgers). Not sure how a 6-6 team gets into a bowl game either.

i remember there was a poster here who, with all seriousness, thought this team would not be 6-6, but 10-2, could've been VIKING(?).

What a joke, too many bowl games if we have 6-6 teams stumbling in. Guess the schools can use the money though.

So if they win the bowl game is it considered a 'successful season'? can't be

Personally, I pegged IOWA going 9-3, and going 8-4 at the very worst.

IOWA could win the ALAMO BOWL by 30+ points and it will still not be considered a "successful season".

But lets not forget, IOWA had nary a winning season in the 60's and 70's, so going to a bowl is something to always be grateful for if your a HAWKEYE FAN and winning any bowl game sure beats sitting home for the holidays such as teams like the ........MICHIGAN STATE SPARTENS, IOWA STATE CYCLONES, FIGHTING ILLINI, SYRACUSE ORANGEMEN, NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELS, NC STATE WOLFPACK, ETC., ETC.

ok then we can go 5 yrs, all though this one isn't over yet

true 1-3 vs Ohio St
still 1-2 vs Michigan..WE HAVENT PLAYED THIS YRS GAME YET..and I would not count it as an automatic loss

8-4? Who else is gonna beat us? After this game are final three games are at home..

Northern Illinos at kinnick
Northwestern at Kinnick
Wisconson at Kinnick( who we've beaten 4 yrs in a row , and its senior day)
Minnisota ..at Kinnick Stadium North

I see 9-3 .. possible 10-2...

Poster ihawk06 thought that Iowa could go 10-2.

HA! HA!

Well, PRE-season if you were to make a line on EVERY Iowa game, they would have been favored in all but two games..........OHIO STATE and @ MICHIGAN.

Believe their OVER/UNDER total wins was 9.5 UNDER -135 at the beginning of the season.
