FWIW, I know quite a few who hired a tout early on into their gambling careers, got taken for some money and learned that isn't the way to go. They don't use touts anymore but still gamble. What I'm trying to say it drawing lambs to get slaughtered isn't always just a temporary influx of bettors, it could potentially introduce a lot of long-term gamblers to the industry. Which I think is a good thing

I paid Stu Feiner about a thousand bucks when i was in college...20 years ago. He won the first 2 weeks...i mean almost every game.....and then he asked for more money....i paid....and he took a beating after that....or should i say, i took a beating after that. Lesson learned.

buddy of mine went through about 3....the only name I still remember was wayne root

personally, I was always too cheap to pay others for picks. I think the most I did was buy those newsletters with picks (i.e. power sweeps)

He went 3-0 on last nights show

Sure he did, including a Patriots -6.5 play against the Dolphins. I remember that game because Miami was up 17-0 early, and it took an act of God for NE to cover. But he was beating his chest and screaming "I KNEW IT!!" after it was over. Funny...when he loses two games, he tells his alleged clients that it means nothing, two games isn't enough to judge him and they'll get it back in no time. When he wins two games though, it means he's the untouchable king genius of handicapping. It's hard to describe how much I despise shithead scamsters like this tool.

I haven't seen this schmuck play anything besides a favorite, and he especially loves road chalk. I still think the early error in the first show where they fucked up by pretending to play two different games on different days that were actually played on the same day at the same time is strong evidence that this entire thing is nothing more than a complete fabrication...and there are no real high roller clients. Just paid actors.

Hey v-man,

Must have been sort of funny, (as you look back) all the bull-crap he must have thrown at you the next time it was time to pay.

I called CNBC and asked for programming, but they didn't put me through to anyone.

It is unbelievable that network would be this irresponsible.

All the garbage on the 500 TV channels there are and this burns you?

There is a sucker born every minute, but probably a future snake oil salesman born every 20 seconds...

They were so high pressuring it was unreal. Funny thing is this....one guy was literally screaming at me to pay for the next week and he said " Mike Anthony will continue to win and win big"....guy was a salesman for feiner and mike anthony....guess he forgot he was calling for stu.

exactly. Packerfan and Bigten must be glad our government is there to stop us from losing all our money in offshore accounts by restricting money transfers etc. Never watched this show but can't believe it's going to lead to the end of the world. Has Tatoo World or whatever it is led to a rush of people getting tats? doubt it. This is what TV has become unfortunately. Glad you guys have to watch it each week then start a new thread. I'm sure CNBC is glad to. Keep on trying to save the rest of us and thank god our government is too.

Long time, vit.

I never sunk low enough to buy picks from those a-holes, although I'll admit I was extremely tempted at times. Back during undergrad, if I had a shitty weekend...I'd read the USA Today sports section on Monday mornings and marvel at guys like Feiner and Duffy. How couldn't I? They would claim they went 6-1 or 7-0 every single week based on "inside information", and a major newspaper wouldn't print that unless it was true, right? Little did I know. This was still mid-90s, which wasn't exactly pre-internet, but there wasn't a lot of info out there about this industry...maybe 2-3 AOL type message boards where users posted picks and that was it. I ended up finding out that they were liars when an Indonesian guy who I worked with saw their ad when I was reading the paper one day, He got a really pissed look on his face and said "Aww, man...those guys scam me! Fuckin bullshit! They steal money!" Well, then.

It blows my mind that fuckfaces like "Steve Stevens" still operate this way almost 20 years later. I hope the fiction in the show includes the "new" clients they claim just can't wait to sign up.

A news reporting outlet should not be airing a convicted felon who is absolutely scamming people. Good news is they will be able to do a follow-up on American Greed.

I really didnt know how bad the industry was then. I thought these guys could help. I got a credit card in college and charged it up for services like feiner and duffy.....didnt have a clue they were operating out of the same boiler room.

Like you said...it was 1994 i believe....there just wasnt enough known about it....or at least i never came across it. Hell, 1k in college....is a fucking ton....that can last for 2 semesters of beer and food easy. I fucked up...no doubt.

Stevens is a typical scum and you can tell he is just a high pressure salesman with no clue about what he's having these guys bet on.....but like you said...they are probably hired actors and not real heavy bettors anyway.

I don't believe that many "long term" gamblers exist. Not long term and betting with enough size to matter a damn. Anyone trying to play with meaningful money will soon have their nuts crushed and become road kill.

Sports gambling has the normal negative expectation of all gambling because of the juice. In addition it has so many other problems impossible for hardly anyone to overcome. This is because the linesmakers are so vastly more experienced and smarter than the players.
I don't think this is true at all. Sportsbettors don't quit. They either learn to win or donate their whole lives. But they keep playing.
