I wrote this last year, decided against posting it until the football season started up again to see if I was still mad several months later. Well, I still am, so here we go:
---
Do NOT Deposit at BetPhoenix. If you win, they will charge you $$$ to get your payout.
I have literally NEVER encountered a book so petty in paying out. I miss the days of Olympics / theGreek, where you "sweat the game, not the payout."
First off, they advertise "one free payout per month". Well...that is, unless you win money, in which case they will deem you "non recreational" and say that option is not available to you.
Ask them what "non recreational" means, and they will just stammer around until they eventually say "oh it's because you've won so much." What? It's not even like I employed sophisticated strategies or commonly beat the closing number. I just got really lucky with dumb luck like betting on the Royals almost every game this last MLB season, and I hit a few lucky parlays.
But okay, fine. No free payouts. So be it. So you call up, they tell you "okay, you can withdraw up to a maximum of $4k a week. It'll cost you $50 per payout. Is that okay?" Okay, sure...except 2 withdrawals in, they will then secretively update their policy to be $100 per payout. Why? Presumably because they're upset with you that you won and want to take some more money out.
But okay, let's say you end up being okay with that, because well...you have no choice. You can either leave the money in the book there. Or not. Well, fuck. Fine. Let's just accept that the book is going to take an extra $600 just well..because they decided you won too much.
But WAIT; THERE'S MORE! They might just randomly decide to not process one of your payouts. That's fun. You'll call in and ask "Hey, why did my payout not process? I see no money was deducted from my account and I haven't received a payout yet." And what will their response be? "Oh, it didn't make it onto a manager's desk in time."
Wait what? I called on a Friday. Payouts process on Tuesday. You're telling me that in the FIVE DAYS between Friday and Tuesday, you couldn't get the form to the manager's desk? Oh, and here's the kicker. They'll say it like it's YOUR fault, like you should have been calling to check in on the payment status the entire time. When you ask for a concession since they straight up forgot one of your payment requests, you'll be told to pound sand.
BUT WAIT; THERE'S MORE! Whenever you FINALLY think you're done, and that you can withdraw your last remaining balance and be done forever with the book that obviously doesn't want you there anymore, you'll be told that you can actually only withdraw in $500 increments. So your balance of ~$3790? Well, you can withdraw $3500 (and pay $100 for the right to do so), but the remaining balance of $190? Well fuck that balance. There's no real way to get that unless you can somehow win the $310 required to get your balance to an even $4100. Well, I guess you can pay $45 in moneygram fees to withdraw your last $190, but let's be honest. That's a terrible choice there.
Oh, but wait. Here's the fun part. They lowered your limits to $100 to make it as difficult as possible to do that. So that's cool.
Their customer service reps perfectly espouse their attitude towards payouts as well. They act like they're doing you this HUGE FAVOR by letting you withdraw, and never accept responsibility for anything. That payout that got missed that I mentioned above? I literally said "so you guys dropped the ball and forgot my payout?" and their customer service manager's response was "That's not what I said. I said that the payment request didn't make it on to the manager's desk". Like wtf is the difference? The responsibility was in YOUR HANDS, BetPhoenix; are you seriously arguing semantics with me about the specific method in which you didn't process the payout that I requested?
I have NEVER had such a frustrating experience with a book in my life. BetTrojan? Gave me my money instantly. BetCoinSports? Sent me $16k in bitcoin in minutes. theGreek? Of course I never had problems with them.
But BetPhoenix? They will nickel and dime you to the tune of $600 in fees to get your money out. And try to keep any balance that's not to the nearest $500. Why? Becuase fuck you for winning.
I share this experience in the hopes that others won't have to experience it themselves. Good luck y'all.
