The old lady and I were shooting craps at the MGM in January, and some drunk/stoned guy walked up and smiled at her about two inches from her face. It was a total shock, so it took me a second to figure out what the hell was going on. Before I could even comprehend the situation to say anything, she grabs my hand and asks "can we help you with something?" in a pissed off tone. I don't think he knew she was with anyone, so he took off...probably since I'm a lot bigger than he was. The pit boss said they let that kind of stuff slide initially since they didn't know if she knew that guy personally, but if he kept bothering her, she could have had security take him away. Hell, I don't know every single one of her friends...so even I didn't know she knew that guy within a matter of two seconds.
So she asks me in the car as we're leaving why I didn't "do anything about it." Well, wtf did you want me to do...start throwing down in the middle of the casino floor? Yeah, if the guy had pulled out a knife or something, then I obviously would have.
I'm built pretty bulky, and one question I get all the time is if I play football. I could kick the crap out of a lot of people, but really hate getting into fights and look for every way to avoid them unless it's absolutely necessary. Go on...call me a pussy, but I can't even remember the last one I had...may have been high school.

Sounds about like something somebody that gets punched in the head for sport might say. It all depends on the situation. If you are outnumbered and dont have a chance to win its better to avoid a situation if possible. Only a dumbass would take a total beatdown if it wasnt completely necessary. I have taught my girl the importance of running for her life and dont look back to see what Im doing. If I have to fight I will, but if she can safely get the hell out of there thats all that really matters to me.
I dated a black girl in high school. This was about 10 years ago. We faced alot alot of negative attention, mostly from blacks. We couldn't go to the mall on weekends, and made a conscious effort to avoid certain places at certain times...
The worst of it all was in a grocery store. My girl was a very pretty girl. Some guys were following us around making comments, why you with him, ect.. Finally, I got sick of it and spoke up and said look all you want, but I am the one touching...
It may of been the wrong thing to do but whatever. They followed my out to the Parking lot. There was 4 of them. The loudest of which got in my face, and the rest kind of surrounded me and I just started staying that he is getting mad because i am with a pretty black girl, and I am white. And that's the issue, so get over it, All I remember is one of the dudes kept saying punch him, get him, they were definitely ready to whoop my ass. Although it seems what I said backed him off for the moment.
He kept talking shit though. I made it to my car and got in, and drove off. They got in the car, I thought it was over, until they flew up on me on the road, I kept going a little faster until it turned into a straight car chase. I ended up losing him. It was awful.
It was probably in the best interest of her, I wouldn't have said what I said, but just couldn't take it anymore. It was rough. I imagine it would be better now.

I do box two to three days a week, but honestly that has nothing to do with this. A girl is a girl. Even if it wasn't my girlfriend and if a girl who was a complete stranger to me was walking down the street getting touched by a group of guys that she didn't know.....I would immediately jump in and help her out. I don't like when people fuck with girls. Girls are so helpless and 99.9% of them can't defend themselves against one guy let alone a group of guys. Rapist IMO should be jailed for life. Guys who touch girls they don't know should be curbed.
You have to pick your battles in life and live to fight another day especially if your woman is your wife and you have kids to support.
I'm young and not married but I can say that if I had kids waiting for me at home and some thugs were harrassing my wife in a dark alley while we were out, not matter how bad it got, I'd have to say I'd probably have to worry about us getting out of there safely as possible over worrying about my ego or what my wife might think of me.
It's tough nowadays. Even though we have a few bad areas, my city is pretty mild in terms of crime and shit but I can understand in other bigger cities where it might be more common how frustrating it might be. These cowards carry weapons and travel in packs and there's no honor. They have no qualms about ganging up on you and beating the crap out of you.
I consider myself streetsmart and I was born and raised in my city and familiar with everything here so I think just being streetsmart and avoiding being at the wrong place at the wrong time is the best thing you can do nowadays.

This has happened to us all in different forms. Suppose the girlfriend is instead, your mother, or your brother, or a treasured friend. Perhaps a home invasion. Perhaps it is you walking through a tough neighborhood following a baseball game. Perhaps a country invaded by powerful USA military warriors who invade and light up your house. The issue is vulnerability. Has nothing to do with ridiculous codes of pride, strength, and self image. Survival has always required basic delicate, social skills. I would play safe to buy a few more seconds of time to calculate how to trade possessions or promises for survival.
I'd try to diffuse the situation if I could by either talking to them or by walking away.

There's nothing wrong with swallowing your pride and walking away when there's a chance your loved one could get hurt or killed.

Keep the politics in the politics forum boys, its down there by the RR for a reason. But in his defense he is right, it is a similar situation. I for one would rather have Biggy Smalls and his posse knocking on my door at 3 am then some enlisted redneck that actually believes our governments murderingspree is going to make the world a better place .
