If Culpepper, Leftwich, & Possibly Jamarcus Russell Flop, What Makes Anyone Think Josh Freeman Will Make It?

Wouldn't Josh Freeman be considered a Poor Man's version of Russell, Leftwich, and Culpepper?

Tampa Bay has made NOTHING but boneheaded moves since the new coach & General Manager took over.....^<<^

Wish them luck. But they really should have gone hard after Cassell and Cutler. They tried, but they obviously didn't try hard enough.

They're losing $$ and know they're going to take even more of a financial beatdown over the next couple of years. They have no interest in getting anywhere near their salary cap until the economy turns around.

According to Forbes the guy that owns the bucs, malcolm glazer is the NFL's 3rd richest owner. Forbes also says that the bucs are one of the NFL's most profitable teams due to their great stadium lease. So I don't want the excuses. Spend the money. Also hire a GM that knows something about football and maybe a head coach that some of us have heard about. These people have yet to make even 1 good move this offseason. I mean move up to draft Freeman today. Why? The teams they moved in front of weren't going to take him. I didn't even want Freeman but moving up to take him is just stupid. They didn't have to.

What else, lets see. 20 mil guaranteed to a TE that is always hurt. 7.5 mil to luke mccown who is probably the back-up. And if he is the backup he's getting high backup money, and if he is the starter than it likely goes to 14 mil with the incentives. So if he is the starter he makes more than, Aaron rogers, Matt Hasselbeck, McNabb, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan or Jay Cutler. 7.5 mil for Leftwhich, (which because of the way its structured is the only good contract the bucs have done so far.) Not getting Cassell, Not getting Cutler, Not signing any stud free agents even though they had more cap space than any other NFL team.

As far as I'm concerned right now the only NFL team with a worse front office is Oakland. And maybe Washington.

Culpepper was a flop? Interesting opinion. He was easily one of the top 5 QBs in the league before his injury.

really, the guy was the 11th pick in the draft and has a 41-54 record as a starter. And only 1 year when he was over .500. He's had 3 good years, all while throwing the ball to Moss. Thats not Tim Couch but its not very impressive for a guy drafted that high. And he's pretty much irrelevant at this point in his career. Which is pretty sad seeing how he was drafted the year after Manning and the year before Brady. They both seem to be doing o.k. at this point in their careers.

The guy had 4 real seasons as a starter without injuries. He went to the playoffs two of those years (and won some games) and had great numbers. I consider Culpepper someone who sustained a major injury early in their career that wasn't necessarily his fault. I think of a flop as someone who just couldn't even play a little bit.

Culpepper is no flop in my book.

I'm assuming your referring to his acl tear in 2005? Well he didn't exactly light up the stats in '01 or '02. In fact he was bad in those years. Plus, while it is a major injury other QB's have come back from it just fine. Carson Palmer tore his ACL. McNabb tore his. They both came back and preformed well. And I think we all expect Tom Brady to play well this year after tearing his ACL last year. Culpepper wasn't a complete failure by any means but not a great QB. He had 1 great year, 2004. and 2 other good years. He also holds the NFL record for fumbles in a year (Pre injury by the way) in 2002. Guy has 198 turnovers in 95 games as a starter.

Culpepper had one of the best years for a QB of ALL TIME!!! yes...All time... it just so happened that peyton manning had the same thing, the same year...(culpepper led the league in yarrds for 4700 passing, i think 40 TDs and 12 INTs, most combined yards ever ---over 5200!. He's also top 5 of all time for rushing yards for a QB.... Culpepper is certainly not a flop. If a guy has a career threatening injury, you cant label him a flop after having some of the top individual QB seasons of all time. Don't care if you have Moss, Carter, and the rest...Fact is, he had one of the top 3 most prolific seasons ever. Guy also completed 73% and set college completion mark and then came in and did same shit in the NFL. Mentioning him with Leftwich and Russell is a disgrace. Believe Leftwich was in same draft....hasn't done anything remotely comparable to Culpepper since entering the league. Culpepper was a top 3 or 4 QB for the first half of the last decade...calling him a flop after suffering a gruesome injury is a great injustice. Guy excelled everywhere he was at before then..... Even though he was dumber than a box of rocks.

You are so right. He didn't list not one white guy as a failure at that position which indicates to him that you only fail if you are black. The white guy just didn't get the right breaks (players or coaches) to make him successful. :think2:

Besides Being Black They All Have One Other Thing In Common

They're all dumber than shit, including Vick and Ol Tarvaris. "Pep" was not a flop! A flop NEVER has any good yrs. He did. Actually wouldn't mind having him right now. And yes we have Couch, Leaf, Booty, Shuler, the list goes on!

While I can see the racial element, I thought he was referring to the fact that all are about 6'6 and have arguably the best arms in the year's they came out and don't have the best mobility.

Not discounting or trying to justify the OP's statement, but when you compare the 4, they were all around 240-250, with cannons for an arm, but were not the fastest guys.

I never said he was a flop. The guy was good for a few year strecth, but hardly a great nfl QB. If he was great then he should still be doing it. He's not that old. He wasn't in the same draft as Leftwhich, not even close. They were drafted 4 years apart. He was in the same draft as McNabb, who has had a 100 times better career. Culpepper is also not a top 5 rushing qb all time. I'm not sure where he is but I can name 8, (Cunningham, Young, Tarkenton, McNair, Elway, Vick, and even Kordell Stewart) that have more career rushing yards. Also i don't dispute he had a great 2004 season. Some of your stats are wrong but it was a great season. But what happend in '01 and '02. That was before his injury and those season weren't good at all. He was 11-5 in 2000 and that was the only season he played where he led his team to a winning record.

What I am saying is that it's really idiotic statement to say if 1 black QB fails it has any relation that others will fail. Each case and person is seperate.

BTW, there are way more white qb failures then black. If Matt Lienart, JP lossman, and possibly Luke McCown flop, What makes anyone think Matt Stafford will make it?

But apparently, he is lumping them together for other reason besides race so it does not matter...

....I would bet my last dollar each of them except Leftwich would be considered faster than most QB in the league. We all know what he was saying but it's good to come in and try and make it sound more respectful. Culpepper was one of the best running and passing QB when he played with Minnesota with good receivers.
