WSEX overpaid me once by $2500, and didn't realize their error at all. I kept it for a few days and then figured it wasn't the right thing to do. I called them and tried for 15 minutes to explain to them what happened. They didn't understand. Finally they got it and asked me to send them the money back. I have no regrets. I think this case really depends on how the individual feels about it. At the end of the day you have to live with yourself. If I could have kept the money without feeling guilty, I would have. But that's just not in me. I suppose in this case if you can keep the money without feeling bad, then keep it. Yeah, you can try to justify it by saying that this industry is full of crooks anyways and they would never try to do the same for us or whatever....but you've just gotta judge yourself by your own standards, not by the standards of others.

At the advanced age of 37 I know myself very well. I can steal from a crook and not lose a minute of sleep over it, but to steal from a man of integrity -- not in a million years. And if I don't know the person in question I would do my best to find out how his integrity is and if in doubt, assume the best.

Don't give it back because of some superstition that something bad will happen to you if you don't. Give it back because it's the right thing to do.
