Let me start by saying I was very dehydrated, I didn't realize it until after I left my house.:icon_conf

I went for my daily bike ride, a routine I have been doing for several years, when the weather is good.

Everything was fine just like any other day.... I did push it a little up the hills on the way home in a low gear , but nothing major, the entire ride takes about 50 minutes...

I get home, I leaned over to pick something up and had this funny feeling come over me, kind of like when you stand up too quick, but there was more to it, I could feel my heart racing and it didn't feel right, unlike anything I ever felt that was for sure.

I go to check my pulse, and my heart was beating so freakin fast I couldn't really feel my pulse (best way I could describe it)

I have checked my pulse many times over the years , I can't say I've ever really checked it when it's beating say 200 times per minute (which would be a maximum heart rate) so maybe it was just that , but I feel like it was more to it, I dunno maybe some sort of palpatations, I've never had any kind of palpatations after exercising.

I wasn't in any pain, no shortness of breath , just felt kind of full , best way I can describe it...so I took a cold shower, and kept trying to check my pulse at my temple and wrist, and it was just hard to feel the beats, pretty scary.

So after I showered I sat down and could feel my heart rate coming down, and after about 10 minutes it was back to a normal rate.

scared the living bejesus out of me.:nopityA:

I have decided to cut out all caffeine, and will start weening myself off of it.

From what I have read, heart palpatations are common in people who exercise vigorously, this wasn't just a skipped beat type thing though.

Max heart rate should be 220 minus your age.

yes, but this wasn't normal...like I said I couldn't even really distinguish my pulse beating it was so fast....very surreal feeling, I was calm through it, like I couldn't believe it was happening.

Could be but, it was weird how it just hit me Fish...I felt fine then boom, I leaned over and it appeared that my heart just went crazy.

Now I'm wondering if I should cut back on exercising.

Seems you had a panic attack. You should read about them.

Anxiety related I would say. I have felt same feeling many times. Caffeine definetly adds to the effect.

I think I've had something similar happen.....Had been running, and leaned over to tie a shoe & bam---totally light headed & then the racing heart for a while.

It seems to have just slowed back down over 10-15 minutes.

this scared the hell out of me...I don't think it was a panic attack because I wasn't even thinking of anything.......I was completely relaxed, I felt great actually....I had even been thinking about how I was starting to feel like I was working my way back into good biking condition.

I could be overreacting, but for those ten minutes or so I definitely saw my life before me and for the first time really I thought about how fragile it can be .

TT, did you try and check your pulse?
I swear it felt like either I had no pulse or it was beating so fast I couldn't feel the beats in between....normally if your heart beat is elevated you can still feel the beats...I don't check it when its beating fast though.

I just started cycling this year. i can't believe how this makes your heart beat without the stress on your body.
I'm getting to really like it.
Do you take asprin before or after biking, JM?

Funny you mention aspirin, because I thought about that today...maybe I should start taking aspirin :icon_conf

I really have never had any health condition, other than one year, five years ago...besides that I have never even been to a doctor.

Biking is a great exercise...I was a littler out of biking shape from the winter, the one thing I did notice yesterday was after I left I was thirsty as hell, so maybe that was part of it.

I would take action and get checked out. I still wouldn't be surprised if it was a panic attack, however. You should read more about them. They do not necessarily arise during moments of specific stress.....they arise from a build up of underlying factors. They can be triggered and magnified by certain envirnomental triggers as well as FATIGUE and CAFFEINE or other drugs. Obviously gamblers have a high amount of underlying stress whether they like to believe it or not....it comes with the lifestyle. A buildup of stress can surface in a very scary fashion. Although this would be a better scenario than a true medical problem....they can be scary if not understood.

Not sure if I checked my pulse or not, but I'm pretty sure it was really racing.

Well I wasn't even winded by then...I really wasn't even panicking while my heart was racing, just wondering WTF.

I'm gonna do the exact same thing today except I will be hydrated and see if it happens again, if it does I will go to the doctor....I hope that never happens again though, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Same thing happened to me once also - I jumped over the coffee table filled with nachos and cheese and doughnuts on the way to the fridge to get another 'tall boy' Schlitz and barely made it back to my couch! After that I cut back on such strenuous workouts!

I TOTALLY agree, and it could be just that (hopefully)...understanding stress is difficult because you cannot see it, and gambling can make it worse for sure.

plus I had Florida and Washington yesterday blow huge leads late .

It could be a combination of everything you mentioned, you are so right.

Doctor told me that 1 regular asprin every other day to keep your blood thin.

I've thought about taking a half aspirin a day...I have read though they can cause other problems...sensitivity to sunlight being one of them.
