Just get the fuk out. Chalk it up to experience and shit that happens in CR. Dont walk, run. Its your family your talking about. Not worth taking any chances. And if you need retribution then take whatever's not nailed down. I've yet to see a landlord here in CR return any deposits regardless of the how pristine you returned their property.
he wont kick the guy out, he prolly pays on time so as a landlord why would i kick him out
forget the deposit, move on, he has ur depo so hes good until the following month in the meantime he will find some else to sucker, the cycle continues
if u want to get abck at the landlord, call th cops get a police report, call the local TV station get the story reported in the local news and paper and get the word out, then the landlord will realize and not renew the guys lease....thats what i would do....get the landlord at his own game, sure it will cost u a few bux (deposit) but in the long run the landlord will get screwed, it will send bad publicity to his area/building and no one will rent from him unless they are deparate....

Sorry to read about your bad experience NES.... It's sad how the laws in our country allow both tenants and landlords to easily defraud one another. I have a friend who had commercial property for rent and he got screwed out of millions of colones in rent money.. and what's worse is that he had to wait over a year and a half to properly evict the scumbag.
I hope you can find a win-win solution to your mess. But please DO spread the word about that landlord so perhaps another family can avoid facing your plight.
