How many here would support a book who paid the DOS attackers?

It's none of my business. If they're up, I'll play there. If they're not up, I'll play somewhere else.

I have no idea if they are really down due to a DOS attack and neither do you. So, I don't give it another thought.

The real questions is:

Do you support books not paying the DOS attackers even if it means you may not be able to get your action in?

You can get your action in, the old fashioned way, over the phone.

Sometimes people in these forums are funny. Books get shunned because they advertise on Google and then get a hard time because they are under DOS attack and pay the hackers. I am surprised at how hard people can be on books for tech failures or perceived "shady" types of advertising. Advertising on google is not being sneaky or unfair. Each word you use in a search is a "keyword" and you can buy advertising based on the word that was used in the search. The main form of advertising posters should be taking offense to are the pop up variety sponsored by that GAIN or Gator network. The primary culprit seems to be that sportsinteraction but there are others as well. I will post some of the names as I remember them. I tried to call customer service at Oly and I got some other company, I forget which one. Instead of 1800-fast bet I dialed 1 866 fast bet or something like that and it was some other company. WTF. Now that is shady.

It's a no-win proposition. I would yank every cent out of a book that paid off a DDOS. It demonstrates that the management is too weak to stand up for themselves, and too stupid to protect themselves. Business is business; you can't afford to trust money to people that are weak and stupid no matter how much you might like them.

I think it all comes down to how much are you gonna lose if your site is down. Is it much more than they're asking for?? then i'd say pay them. I Agree with buddyboy "Pay the bastards, then fix it so it doesn't happen again. Then track them down and beat them like dogs."
However, to answer the thread's question... I would play with them, the fact that they paid the attackers doesn't have anything to do with the fact that they pay me. JMHO.

Just another thing as far as i know a DOS attack doesn't mean they are being hacked. They are two different things i think.

you have to look at it from some of the books perspective. some books out there just dont have the ability to fight a dos attack.

i dont agree with paying people like this, but i guess i cant blame someone for not letting themselves be put out of business.

Totally irrational and negative attitude phaedrus. Wtf. Someone creates software to attack a site and they pay it because they want to bide time and let the authorities track the source of attackers maybe and avoid losing a lot of money by being down. On top of this you are encouraging others to not play there anymore? C'mon man. Put yourself in their shoe.
