I think it's a business decision that each book would have to make. It wouldn't influence me one way or the other. There are a lot more important considerations, like is the book safe, the lines offered, things like that.
If they don't want to get attacked then they should drag their infrastructure into the 21st century.

I would like to say that I wouldn't play at a book that paid the attackers, but then again what if the majority of their company is internet based without much of a call center base. They are then put in a real tough spot. They need a fast fix. Where as a company that has both can somewhat afford to wait to fix the problem.
I don't know my initial reaction is to say I would play with only the books that didn't pay as it would help solve the problem. But I could argue both.

Unless a book has deep pockets and a very keen tech support staff (like CRIS), they will be virtually put out of internet business by the hackers. It's just that simple.

I think ALL books now know this is a real threat. Rather than pay the hackers, those companies that are here to serve us long term will invest in further protecting their businesses from such attacks.
