never played any sports in high school. in my area you could play almost anyone worth playing against at a public basketball court. plenty of quality tournaments year round too. schools like cherokee dominated the scouting and lot of the players went on to play d3 and d2. but would get cooked by me and my buddies on the regular.
If you and your buddies were cooking d2 and d 3 college players then you should have been on a scholarship somewhere.

we didnt play organized for the most part. my one buddy went to a d2 in vermont and played, another to liberty. it was really about practice and hustle as much as it was skill in high school sports, which is stupid. driving around and playing at different parks was more appealing then going to practice for some coach who played favorites.

Good enough to earn a Scholaship to play baseball. Scouted throughout h.s years by the Pirates, Twins and Rangers. Never made it to the promised land. Those were the days. Wow. Gone in literally a blink.

Played football & baseball in North Jersey way back when! Played both against Bill Parcells who in Highschool
was a QB & a pitcher. In football I played in what I believe was the first All-Star game in Jersey.
Loved basketball when I was freshmen was a starter on fresh soph team but went to Florida for vacation
with my family for 2 weeks and when I came back the cocach took my starting job away so I quit.

Scholarship to play football at a D1 school at the time southern conference as a freshmen we played against
Virginia & Va Tech, Dan Henning a long time NFL coach was a teammate & fellow Sigma Nu. Got in a little
trouble and lost scholarship, enjoyed it all!

Thats some pretty steep vows to uphold there...

father is the pastor at one of the if not the largest parishes in philly. craziest office inside the church, something out of cribs.

side story: the old church in west philly had a decent run inside of it on the 2nd floor. usually started around midnight on wednesdays. anyway, guy gets fouled hard and ends up losing the game. leaves angry comes back 5 minutes laters and shoots and kills the guy who fouled him. pretty insane

I started out as a beast at soccer. Quit it to focus on basketball year round. Moved from the city to the country and by my 8th grade year my varsity coach had me proclaimed as one of the best 8th graders in Maryland. I got in trouble going into 9th grade. Missed my entire freshmen year but was allowed to try out and make the team. So I was apart of the team just missed the whole fucking season. Missed my chance to go varsity freshmen year. So I come back sophomore year and we go 21-1. Junior year we had the perfect squad, we won states. With our first round game a top 3 most insane basketball game I've ever been apart of. Somehow we got matched up randomly in the 1st rd vs a team who was suppose to be a title contender too. They had kids who could jump out the gym....Aberdeen is DC area. They can ball. We were up 3 with 10 seconds...they shoot what they think is a 3 and whole gym and everyone thinks it is a tie game even me. Clock still ticking I pass the ball in and my point guard is dribbling the clock out not running up court. Yo the ref called a 2 pointer and said kids foot was on the line. And my pg just runs the clock out throws the ball up in the air. Game over we win by 1. Crowd starts rushing the floor. Refs are running for their lives. Straight chaos on the floor. Then we go to shake hands and they trying to fight and shit. Announcement of somebody with a gun in the crowd. Somebody got jumped outside. Shit was maylay.

Thought I'd share that story.

Scary scene Mob. I was varsity 3 years in track and cross country. About 16 minutes 3 miles, 4:40 mile and 2:00 half mile. Not good enough for track scholarship. Still, high school track and x-country meets are some of my favorite memories. Met the girl I am still married to at a track meet.
