Sorry for getting back so late. I've been dealing with computer problems
The reason why I chose the Phillies yesterday was because I didn’t think they were done winning - at least for this series against Washington. Manuel did play a bunch of scrubs in the first game of the double-header two days ago, but he got a strong start from Kendrick and beginning in the 7th brought in his full compliment of the bullpen for the rest of the game. Also, he pinch hit his studs at the end to try to grab the win. I think he was trying to give his starters rest since they have been on such a long stretch of games and had the double-header going that day. This would give him a shot in the first game and set him up for a really good chance at a win in the second game with Lee on the mound. In the second game, he did start all available starters (except Hunter and Howard hurt). Again, pretty strong pitching and wasn’t bringing in anyone out of the bullpen suspect of a quality performance.
I checked the lineup for game three prior to game start and again their full available starting staff was in. Moreover, Worely’s numbers against the Nats were really good (giving up .217 BA, 0 HR, 1 RBI) and Lannan’s number against the Phillies are not good (giving up .320 BA, 11HR, 43RBI). With this loss, I don’t take the Phillies as lying down; rather, I take it as they just plain got beat and out-played by the Nats. Philly’s offense has not been their strong-suit all year and it worked against me yesterday.
This game had the makings of a big play as I have been capping all year. However, it didn’t work out. Sorry for those who took the loss. I believe I will be laying off of Philly until the post season.
