I've been on a payment plan before /w my local... We're friendly aquaintences, and he knows I'd never stiff him. We even joked yesterday when I was picking up about how I'm moving to the west coast, two days after the SB.

He has a few guys I know who get caught up in the moment and go on a payment plan once or twice a year... I think he usually gives them some kind of a break. Good guy.

Yeah, it happens.....a guy is playing all year, and then at some point he goes bad...maybe a Bill comes up, and he can'tpay both afte having a Bad week of gambling

I owed a bookie a little over $900 who died before collection day came around back in the 70s (he was elderly) and there was no one left to collect. Strange situation but when you think about it if I had won the previous week and had money coming instead I would not have been able to collect. No harm no foul.

The cardinal rule of sports betting IMO is a player should be able to pay when he loses (I realize now and then arrangements have to be made occasionally as I ended up in one to a different bookie also back in the 70s who I paid off a dime at a cecil a week for 10 weeks). The second half of the rule is a player should be able to get paid when he wins.

I have given countless players countless deals to settle when they have gone bad back in the day when I was working the other side of the counter (over 25 years ago). Some paid and some stiffed.

Bigbet sorry to hear that you had a bad run..

Your to late, at his wake I went up to view the deceased and say a quick prayer at which time I slipped a $900 check out of sight inside the casket.

wil..:ohno:

PS. I don't mean to be irreverent, that is a punchline from an old golf joke. The bookie was like a mentor to me as I worked for him as a gopher for a year or so when I came home from the service and learned a lot about being a local.

He had maybe 50 players, was old and never left his house much so he kept me very busy. I should have never started betting with him but I was around 22 and you couldn't tell me anything.

He had bad emphysema (which he died of) and one of my jobs was to get one of his rotating oxygen tanks refilled every week so he always had a back-up. I missed him a lot at the time, $900 notwithstanding. He lived quite a long and colorful life.

I hear that, ive had some long nights with those scammed things. Im in college, and honestly if I wanted to I would have no fear in telling him to go fuck himself for it im just not like that. Instead I was just like listen, paydays a week from today, ill give you a G right now and we call it even. He didnt want to at first but ended up doing it.

This year I was down about a grand after saying I would never do it again, and somehow the big guy upstairs let me win it all back that night to the point where I was up 50 bucks. It was 5 am needless to say I shut the computer right away lol.

We're NOT The Only "Stiffers"

@ least twice I've had a book "go south". Once not for much$$, but the other time over 4 dimes. My fault for playing w/one I didn't know personaly. The guy that screwed me for the bigger amount left Mpls owing in the neighborhood of 100K! I later found this out, needless to say a few bad ass guys were looking for him. Over 25 yrs ago, never heard what if anything happened to him. It's stories like this that make some players have "fuck him if he can"t take a joke" type attitude. Haven't nor will I played w/a "local" for over 10 yrs. IF OS gets shut down, I'll just quit. At my age not as big a deal anymore!:toast:

Now, This is What's happening More and More the past Year or so.

Not really the "Bookie" but the Runner/agent or Sub-Agent.

I have a few friends that are working on some stuff like this, as we speak.

It's real Bad when your Bookie doesn't pay. They are the Lowest of the Scum. IMHO

i used to play offshore or up in vegas. so i got hooked up with an agent for close to a year who collects on a about 50 people in my area. i've slow paid a few weeks but never stiffed. this guy always pays when i win like clockwork.

my account resets every monday so i have a chance to get buried all over again lol!

on another note, on tips when you guys win, whats a normal amount to tip lets say winning 5k to your agent?

on another note, my agent is about 80 years old but he tells me the guys that don't want to work payment plans with him and flat tell him they don't want to pay for whatever reasons, he sends out the big guys to do the work. told me about a finance manager at a car dealership, the big guys went in and broke his legs right in the middle of the showroom and after that the finance manager called the agent to work out a payment plan.

i almost wanted to call bs on the story but figured i'd just pay my bill and not find out lol!

All this just confirms that anyone who would give me any sort of credit it is not someone I want to deal with

Is he an Agent ? or Runner ??

Because it's really hard to say.....an Agent could be booking the whole thing himself, or he could have a Half Sheet.

a Runner....Could or Should be getting 25% of His own players

I'll tell you one thing, Not too many like yourelf...thinking on Tipping

I guess if you wanted, you can throw the guy $200-$300
Believe me, it doesn't sound like Much.....But They Don't get Tipped too much either !!
