Sumlin could be fired himself by this time Friday night. 4th straight season losing 4 of his last 5 won't do him any good whatsoever. Tech, Baylor, Texas, Houston and A&M could all have coaching openings soon. Wild times in the state of Texas.
Seriously JB, You have a good handle on the current status of college football in the State of Texas......Not good. Besides Tech, Baylor, Texas, Houston and A & M, let's not forget about TCU and SMU, both which have rich traditions and the desire to play winning football not to mentions a few of the up-starts (i.e. UTSA & NTST to mention a couple). That's a lot-of rosters to fill-up and produce winning football teams.
It's going to take a total re-assessment (not just coaching changes) of the football program in Austin to bring winning Longhorn football back, much of it at the top (faculty and administration, and the culture therein). Look what "Mighty Michigan" went through; They had to put their whole program through the wringer and let it dry-out for (8 years); They are just now beginning to reclaim some fame.
