he put a lot into these kids. they really loved the guy. They are young and mistake prone and Charlie + staff just couldnt get it done.
Lots of close games this year but couldnt win many of them. Time to move on....
Sounds like he will be well compensated for a job poorly done. I have no sympathy. I feel people shoulget paid for results. Which he couldn't deliver.

i dont think he did a poor job

a) he cleaned house. there were a lot of players who maybe didnt belong on the team. Mack let the players run loose and Charlie fixed that. Building team character
b) he recruited well and has a lot of very young, talented players
c) he turned around a team that was losing badly to good teams.....20,30,40,50 point blowouts...into a competitive team that played good teams to within a TD and having chances to win at the end. I think this is why Texas had very much thought to keep Charlie for one more year.

But Charlie could not win many close games this year and they made some key mistakes along the way. Losing to KU was it for Texas. It should never happen.

Officially, the Texas AD is waiting until the end of the season. Charlie is the coach through Friday. I guess to keep the ratings up to see if Texas can pull out a win and a bowl game

I heard something this morning about some Texas players threatening to boycott the TCU game. Don't know if it's true or just twitter talk. They also seemed to have boycotted the Kansas game.

they arent boycotting.

ESPN makes a good point about McIntyre (sp?) at CU. sucked, sucked, sucked....BOOM!

I think the issue with Texas players is they are stressed and feel the pressure of having to win so Charlie keeps his job. That's a very very bad position to be in and it wont change next year.

I think Texas will go sign Herman first and then officially let Charlie go to avoid the crap they went through after firing Mack Brown. I assume all of that has happened or will happen this week.

Strong will have enough good options next year. I presume he'll be a top candidate at a few places.

Charlie Strong is the second coach to fall victim to the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence. Six years ago this month, Dan Hawkins met his fate (to be the color guy on AAC & Conf-USA TV game broadcasts) after a miserable loss to these same Jayhawks in November of 2010. I guess coaches should be kinda nervous after losing to Kansas in conference play. I wonder what the Kansas team win total was set for in Vegas coming into this season?

I believe their win total was set at 1.5. They came close to winning 3 games this season. Don't forget TCU. They took them down to the wire and lost by one point.

The problem today with the University of Texas football isn't Charlie Strong; It's the Political Correct (PC) environment that has creped into the University culture.
The University of Michigan went through the same thing until they finally decided that winning football games (enter Jim Harbaugh) was more important than affirmative action and same-sex restrooms.....Austin and the University community within got pretty bad.....Maybe Texas will come to their senses but don't bet on it.

Heard on the radio that Texas students are pushing for a safe sanctuary campus. My how the strong have fallen. Football isnt important as it once was in Austin. I see it getting worse as well.

If I was Herman I would hold out until the T AM job opens. Best Texas option out there. LSU is still the best job out there on a talent and fanbase standpoint.

I agree, but you know how Texas is. They can throw a lot of money at a coach that makes it hard for just about anybody to turn down. Texas also needs to concentrate on coaches they can get, and forget about Saban, Meyer and Harbaugh. They aren't leaving...

which is what they've been doing. it's Tom Herman or.....stick with Charlie?? I cant forsee Les Miles here but he's the only other name being thrown around. There is no talk of anything other than that. Texas would be foolish to let Charlie go without having a coach lined up.

Why??? LSU did it, LOL. I'm officially naming myself Clairvoyant of the Year......predicted in someone's thread Saturday after Kansas' second TD that Strong was gone and told some guys who follow me that we needed a pick six in a game to hit a nice par,........and it did, LOL. GL sdf, man, never a dull moment in Texas football these days.

Chip Kelly. Just throwing that name out there. I dont think he stays in SF for long. He'll have his options when he decides to come back to the CFB

Chip would need to lose some weight (contract stipulation)......They don't go for "heavy-weights" (fattys) in the Southwest......

Point being U Texas has let football slide down the importance ladder. In the next 20 years the majority of people who graduated from there will be the boosters. They arent football type people in the majority.

I personally think it will resemble Cal or there abouts on football support.

Texas AM is the big dog in the state now. The admin of Texas has done this to themselves. I am a believer that its going to be tough to turn that program around regardless who the coach is. It seems the football culture in Austin was being killed years ago.

Come on SDF.....You are a man that has above-average intelligence and your knowledge of football is way above the average fan on the street.
Charlie Strong's success (or recorded failure) at Texas has nothing to do with coaching ability or the color of his skin.....The deck was staked against him
right after he arrived in Austin. The culture at the University of Texas (Austin) is not conducive to producing winning football any longer; The politically correct environment is now the dominate factor/priority.

Winning in big-time college football today is not an easy proposition, it requires a total commitment from the top to the bottom....Not just the rabid alumni....I doubt if Lou Saban or Urban Meyer would take the Texas job even if they offered them all the gold in Fort Knox.....They know better....

Charlie Strong? Don't worry about him; He is now a multi-millionaire. All he has to do is keep the women at bay.
