The bible and religion just gets shoved down kid's throats way too much. I remember going to church a little bit as a really young kid. My parents weren't really into it, so it wasn't shoved upon me. I was just kind of informed I was Protestant and that was it and never brought up again, that was my trained response as a child.

I later moved to a richer town with a lot of Italians who are pretty much all Catholics. These kids were forced to attend Catechism classes regularly....often referring to it as Cat-a-crap.

By time I was 18 and living on my own I called myself an agnostic....but I never believed any of that Biblical crap, ever. By 30 I said the truth, I'm an Atheist.

The Bible is extremely difficult to read, most people that call themselves whatever are not intelligent enough to even read this fiction.

If I believed the BS Biblical tales, I might as well believe in...

Santa Claus
Tooth Fairy
Easter Bunny
Superman
Batman
Aquaman
Wonderwoman

etc.

So the Boy Scouts of America are going to allow gay kids into the organization, but still not atheists... and even the gays aren't fussy about aligning themselves with the atheists.

"The BSA maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. In the first part of the Scout Oath or Promise the member declares, "On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law." WHAT?

DEAC's interest in this subject amazes me.
This is clearly something he is passionate about.

Im normally pretty good at figuring out peoples motivation for there passion but I cant figure out DEAC.

The best theory I can come up with is he was brought up in a very conservative Christian home.
Most if not practically all of his family are strong Christians.
He is somewhat considered the black sheep of his family due to his contrary beliefs.

So because of the friction that this has caused him his entire life he has made it a mission to lash out against the Christian belief every chance he gets because due to his upbringing and family situation he is not able to speak his mind the way he would like to in real life.

So he goes on a board full of internet strangers to vent his frustration that he is not able to vent out in real life.

He is either living a fake life from his family and friends to keep the peace. Or he does stand up for his beliefs and he is an outcast.

This is clearly personal.
I just figured internet troll

So what, it's a *private* institution. The atheists can form their own group and exclude theists, that's what this country is all about. Geez.

Next thing you know, the Boy Scouts are going to be forced to include girls.

atheists, not theists. Yes, i agree it is a private organization, but global too, but its a shitty thing to do to a little kid. Why should they suffer.

Me I went to a YMCA camp, and there was a sunday "chapel on the rock", but it wasn't really religious, more like songs than anything. They even had a grace in the form of a song before meals, but again, a song, so not too terrible. I think the BSA mandate might be a little askew.

I know, in this day we are hoping that everything becomes a little more 'vanilla'. more politically correct, etc, to incorporate all members of society, with all of their beliefs, abilities, etc. and sometimes to just say, it's ok to be you.

And they aren't being forced to do anything... just social pressure. The more our family values change, the more other things will.

Well they do have groups that exclude us...

Just saiyan'

There are groups that exclude whites or Christians?

I am not American so I am at a disadvantage but taking the KKK out, like which ones? I am curious

It says in wikipedia that the boy scouts are "The BSA holds a Congressional charter under Title 36 of the United States Code,[SUP][19][/SUP] which means that it is one of the comparatively rare "Title 36" corporations in the United States"

So, is it legal to form organizations that discriminate among protected classes ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protected_class )

Not voting because the poll is stupid. "I don't know" is the only appropriate choice. The whole point of the poll is say that God sucks because bad things happen. Either that or he must not exist.

The Most High, or supreme Creator, whatever you call that being, is a lot more advanced than you or I. And with regard to your relationship with that being, if one of you is wrong, it isn't God.

It's kind of like how Christopher Hitchens used to talk. "God doesn't exist, and I hate Him."

wow, quoting yourself is kinda weird, and may be the first time in RX history, but maybe the mods could tell me if that has happened before................

Look, vote what you want, post what you want, argue if you want... a forum opens up all opions, which is great. Just be true to yourself, and be honest, there is no other way.

My question is, why does it matter if someone else believes or doesn't believe in god. Does it affect your life?

I don't believe, but i have lots of friends that do. We all get along just fine.

It is not important what another believes, only what you believe.
