Damn! That's some serious chutzpah.

Two groups of Central American migrants made separate marches on the U.S. Consulate in
Tijuana Tuesday, demanding that they be processed through the asylum system more quickly
and in greater numbers, that deportations be halted and that President Trump either let
them into the country or pay them $50,000 each to go home.

It feels unfathomable that they could change the demographics of an entire country over just a few generations and not really have much of an uproar over it until recently.

But they've just done so with deathly (no pun intended) precision. No one in the media talks about it, even when there is discussion it is about minor aspects of immigration or just throwaway terms like "I'm for legal immigration but not illegal!", they've really shrunk the Overton Window of discourse on the subject.

Whether we spend 1.6B or 5B on a wall in the near future is not going to make a difference about the future demographics of this country at all. But yet both sides will have the rubes thinking this showdown is the be all end all.

Even with people dumb and uninformed, when the questions are asked correctly, most of our current immigration policies poll horribly.

If that's the case (and it probably is, since demography is destiny) then the real damage was done by Ted Kennedy's immigration bill in 1965. Everything since then has been pretty much whistling past the graveyard.

It wouldn't shock me if WaBashWonders didn't even know what the 1965 immigration bill was.

It wouldn’t shock me if you didn’t know what a hypocrite was lol.

And I posted that because “I feel like it”.

I guess you can kind of argue about the necessity of a physical wall, but you can't deny that Trump deviates from both the crusty Democrats and Republicans when it comes to actually addressing a pretty common sense issue. This is the policy issue where I have the biggest problem with Democratic party in general. They somehow distort being cautious and enforcing common sense policy to keep our country safe with being anti-cultural, white nationalists. It's common sense for fuck's sake.

A wall would only be part of the solution, and really a very small part. But it is a euphemism for wanting significantly more border security, while the Democrats (and again, MANY republicans and their donors) basically want the laughable status quo.

Do I think a wall is 100% the correct way to handle this? Eh...But if the guy that is actually trying to handle it wants it then just give it to him. It's better than status quo of doing nothing.

@realDonaldTrump

The Democrats and President Obama gave Iran 150 Billion Dollars and got nothing, but they can’t give 5 Billion Dollars for National Security and a Wall?

In the end, he may not be enough to save the Republic (Democrats spent decades destroying America) but Donald J. Trump is simply awesome! :103631605

This is their mentality. To be fair, until Trump conservatives haven't done much on immigration either. They are in with lobbyist for cheap labor. Many see America as nothing more than some economic zone. Economy is important but not everything. And I would say there is more negatives than positives anyway

"can we turn the TV cameras off? We are not supposed to be doing this publicly."

Gee, why did Grandma say that, I wonder?

We don't even need tons of people anymore with the rise of automation. And we're not building a country like post WW2 either. Schools packed with multiple languates being spoke, hospital waiting rooms filled with people, traffic to get anywhere, suppressed wages. How does this benefit natives besides oligarchs who become richer off cheap labor and more consumers?

Population growth in general as a substitute for real economic growth just more Keynesian nonsense (wonder if Wabash knows who Keynes is? Sorry I can't stop making fun of this guy)

Not saying we don't need any immigration but probably half as much and merit based.

I don't even know if Trump really cares THAT much about having one. I think you hit the nail on the head: he's making a statement and bringing the issue avoided by both parties, frankly, to the forefront. It's symbolic

Definitely. But even half as much is too much. That is still like 750,000. And merit based means good jobs that will only got to people because they can pay them less than Americans. Halt all immigration for 10-20 years. Implement something like Japan has. IF AND ONLY IF after that time we need people....bring them in for jobs for only the time needed. DO NOT make them citizens and then they are gone when the job is done. Though I wouldn't trust business and politicians not to lie for cheap labor anyways. But it is a better idea than what we have

IMO. Get rid of all immigration PERIOD. I will accept a policy of letting in about 100 of only the most intelligent and highly skilled people around the world regardless of race, ethnicity and color. That with such a low number will be only a net positive

I think your post is a bit draconian and an overreaction because of our current bastardized system which benefits corporations and dem politicians but we do want to continue to bring people here. We just need more technocratic intelligence in dojng so.

Bringing the best and brightest from all over the world in small, controlled numbers will allow for better assimilation and allow the US to remain the economic superpower. We need a system more like Canada or Australia.

But make no mistake, any policy should benefit natives first and foremost.

For those forecasting my home state of Texas as being headed towards "3rd world status" you obviously have not spent much time in Texas.

Far more American citizens immigrate into Texas each year from east of the Mississippi than enter illegally across the south Texas/US border, but hey, keep on keeping on.

I resubmit my sincere interest in watching Tiny do some more 'Art of the Deal' television with Democrat officials during his remaining months in office. Absolutely awesome TV

You probably haven’t spent much time in McAllen then Lanquel.

Only good part about mass migration is once their numbers grow large enough there is no way they’re gonna wanna be governed by old white losers like Pelidi, Schumer or some loser like O’rourke.

Talk about a loosely tied together coalition. Youre already seeing this w/ the AOC.
