No, that would be Boston.

How do you figure?

They have the second best selling debut album of all time. They were
innovative in their use of multiple blended harmonized solo guitar work.
And Brad Delp's extended vocal range was amazing.

problem w/ boston was they were never heard from again after that album...that's all they have to show for sales and whatever else you wanna pump up about them....the dead's catalog goes on for days and people to this day follow the remaining members around with their own respective outfits....

Their second album "Don't Look Back" sold 7 million albums.

Third Stage (1986–1988)

Despite the adversity, progress continued to be made on the third Boston album. A tape of one of the songs, "Amanda", leaked out of the studio in 1984. The song became the lead single when Third Stage was finally released on September 23 1986.[16]
Third Stage was the strongest charting Boston release to date. The album and lead single "Amanda" both went to #1 on Billboard, and subsequent singles, "We're Ready" and "Can'tcha Say" were Top 5 and Top 30 respectively.[8]

ha ha

are we comparing Boston to the Dead?

lol

No, I don't think we're comparing the two bands. I made a hyperbole comment that the Dead were the most over-rated band of all time, and Wapner said that title
should go to Boston. Then someone said Boston did nothing after their first album which I corrected.

Of course it's all subjective... But I honestly have never heard a Dead song I liked, and I have always loved Boston... one man's subjective opinion...

This is what I was talking about earlier.

Yes Boston 2nd best selling but the Dead sold x amount more albums than did Boston did not give a shit about top selling but are far more wealthy than any Boston member.

When Boston comes on the classic rock station I change the station as all their songs sound the same.

The Dead have one of the biggest fan-bases in Buffalo...I was "grateful" to attend one show in 1990 at Rich Stadium........

Musical taste is personal, however this is a very ignorant statement to say that they "totally suck". If they are not up your alley that's one thing...but they do not "suck".

Oh God, give me a fucking break.

Please don't try and tell me you have never used that phrase to refer to something
for which you had personal distaste for something, even though you knew full
well they didn't actually literally suck.

Let me give you examples on how this slur is used:

"Yankees suck" - now, do you really think that when people say that, that they
really mean that the Yankees are inept? No, they mean they have personal
distaste for that team.

"homework sucks" - now, do you really think that when people say that, they
mean that homework is bad for them? No, they are expressing personal
distaste.

I have never heard a Grateful Dead song that in any way appeals to me, so
I reserve the right to say that they suck.

Am I saying that they have no musical talent? No, I am expressing personal distaste.

Can I be any clearer?
