First off they aren't jockeys, their called drivers...second off yeah most of them have second jobs or are driver trainers, 3rd If you think all races are fixed your a moron, do the math, You would have to take down every pool and split it 8 ways to make any money, unless 5 of the drivers decide to work all week and let you have all the money while they stiff thier horses... c'mon how retarded are you...

Didn't mean to step on your toes, but I've heard enough first and second hand accounts regarding how phony harness racing is-so stuff like this doesn't shock me too badly.

Just my outsider perception, but I've heard the stories from people well into "the know".

Hard to NOT bet the Spa. Blows away Del Mar in terms of quality racing day in and day out.

I'm going to be Tivoing all of the Spa and put the races on CD for those dead winter months at the Big A.

Yes. Even with less days & races, they put up some sorry fields. Hoping polytrack improves things out there.

Labeeb,

Sounds like a great idea. Ironically I do this for the home and in state tracks but never gave it a second thought about out of state ones. Thanks for the idea.

I've been around it all my life, yes it does happen, just like college BB and FB games are fooled with, but to say every race is fixed is just foolish. And also having been involved in both t-bred and harness alot of people "in the know" tend to embelish alot in order to seem more "in the know." In fact if you've ever been in the paddock at any track, almost everybody thinks that they've got the winner... especially at the Saratoga Flats, very rarely does a horse get saddled that the connections don't think they can win it.

The only thing Del Mar has over Saratoga is location, near the beach, if they ran the same cards they do now at a location in the middle of nowhere, they would be nothing. 8 races a day, 10K clms, 14K mclms...

Very true...there is a pretty big "blah, blah, blah" factor with the pony crowd.

Maybe I'm biased-I grew up around Aksarben, which at one point in time was the only track of it's size that Vegas wouldn't book because it was so phony.

Here's a link for you; keep in mind that Herve Filion is, by far and away, the sport's all-time winningest driver. If he can be involved then anyone can.

Ancient history, I can post recent stories on T-Bred race fixing, College Football fixing, College BB Fixing, Boxing,... It's all irrelavant, you have to look at the big picture, not some incident from the past... ALL MLB players used stuff, and still do if you go on that theory.

I'm aware that funny things go on in T-breds but I'm talking about bridge-jumping. At the buggies if you do that you're almost surely screwed, that's why you hardly ever see it happen. It happens all the time at the T-breds because the races are much more honest. And your comparision to baseball was right on; just as steroids are surely rampant in baseball, despite the absence of proof, so is fixing at the buggies.

Happens all the time in Harness you just don't follow it, so you think you know... I can name 5 examples of over $100,000 to show on harness horses in the past week.... Please don't just make stuff up if you don't know ask somebody...It's also seen more in runners because of 5 horse fields are 50 times more common.

I don't make stuff up, I see it way more often at the thoroughbreds than at the buggies and they show a ton of tracks in Las Vegas.

LOL, great you hardly ever see it happen, except for those 5 times last week, the 5 the week before... How many harness pools are you watching? and why are you watching them if they are all fixed?

As many as they show in Vegas and because I like to watch the races. I only bet on roughly one in every eight or ten races; plenty of idle time when I can't find a play. And those are T-bred races I bet on, I probably make one or two buggy bets a month.

So you make 1 or 2 bets a month and buy know all about harness pools and such... Back to my orginal question, Why are you posting about something that may or may not have happened months (years?) ago?

Do any of you make a serious profit from year to year betting horses? I never really got into it more than for kicks every once in a while

You can, but it takes an enormous amount of time because its all day everyday in most places, its not like betting on NFL or NCAA football where you prep for 1 day a week, you have to watch so much stuff. If you look labeeb profits about 8 cents on every dollar bet in his matchup selections, an 8% ROI is pretty good, I'd say. You really have to like the game, but money can be won...
