"...make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty."

I understand some people will always say this is crazy, but when it comes down to it money really means nothing. Put your happiness above all else and don't be scared to take risks. The greatest moment in my life was when I realized this and now i've taken so many risks and as a result have experienced some pretty amazing things. Best of all i'm finally happy. Just do what makes you happy man, because life is way too short.

Something I have told many of my friends in the same situation as the OP is do not stop learning and keep your mind sharp.

How does one do that when they cannot jump into or afford night school? Lynda.com offers people a chance to learn at the pace that they can handle. It might sound silly to some but watching hours of videos on nearly ANYTHING to do with a computer has given many people a new chance at getting back into the workforce. It's not for everyone but when you add up the countless hours that many of us spend in front of a computer, carving out an hr a day to put your mind to work shouldn't be that hard.....

Like I said, not for everyone but it might be an option to the OP.
