Everybody is suggesting moving but you have no idea what his savings look like and if he can afford to move. Like I said at 47 if I'm in the same situation out comes my .380 time to get a little work done.

then there is the rock bottom plan depending on how sick and tired of things you are

get our CDL and fish around for one of those civilian transport jobs in iraq or afghanistan -- those guys make some real cash but it's dangerous as hell -- would definitely be an adventure but definitely not long term +EV LOLL

http://www.jobmonkey.com/truckdriving/iraq-truck-driver-jobs.html

Even with the hard working conditions and the threat of terrorist attacks, truck driving jobs in Iraq are still being sought after by many foreigners, looking to make a lot of money for hard driving work in a very short time. We're not talking about military trucking jobs either; these are jobs with private companies. Many people go against the odds and apply for truck driving jobs in Iraq, believing that their luck will see them through. Truck drivers from all over the world are applying to companies set up in Iraq and looking to find workers for hard-to-fill positions such as truck drivers. It's not uncommon for a foreigner working for a company in Iraq driving a truck to have an annual salary of $75,000 with some earning as much as $100,000 while working in the more dangerous areas of the country.

Remember it is easier to get a job when you already have one. Just keep send out the resume.

Get into sales, sell something, anything. At least the you control your own destiny. I went from making 400k a year to losing everything (overnight, thanks US govt) and it was something that took me 6 years to over come ( barried my head in the sand and always thought something would fall in my lap) finally got my head on straight and now back to making a decent living and will make 6 figures again finally because I got back to my roots and got a job in sales.

"...make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty."

I understand some people will always say this is crazy, but when it comes down to it money really means nothing. Put your happiness above all else and don't be scared to take risks. The greatest moment in my life was when I realized this and now i've taken so many risks and as a result have experienced some pretty amazing things. Best of all i'm finally happy. Just do what makes you happy man, because life is way too short.

Wishing you luck BuddyLou. I would tell you that whatever you do were doing before this job to keep sending your resume to that type of work.

It's not what you make; it's how much you keep; after spending aftertax money in a way which maximizes your life; the way you define it.

rich/poor..>>a very subjective categorization.

Sales is a great job to have, if you can actually sell something. If he's 47 and still working at a factory for $7.50 an hour I doubt a decent sales job is going to fall into his lap nor will anyone hire him to sell their crap with the sheer number of qualified people looking for jobs. I wouldn't be in sales for anything, but people probably wouldn't want to manage a bunch of IT dolts either so different strokes for different folks.

If I ever found myself out of a job and I couldn't find anything in the IT leadership field I would become either a driver or mailman. Both will be needed for a long time, especially drivers. Go try and train at UPS or Fedex, they pay really well and shit will need to be shipped until the end of time.

I would do that before going to school for a CDL but truck drivers are needed too.

GL, I agree with everyone else this is some depressing shit!
