Sick how the state advertises that shit... Shameless bunch. They know who their best customers are and know that those people can't actually afford to play. Pretty sure at one ppint, maybe a year or so ago here in MA, there was a commercial that essentially said "lost your job? Play the lotto"

I laugh at the daily numbers type players....like pick a 3 digit # at true odds of 1,000-1, maybe get paid 600-1 if it hits.

$600 ain't gonna do much for you, on a $1 ticket, if it hits !

I can somewhat see casually playing the games that can pay millions, like powerball or the easier state lotteries that can pay 5-10 M.

The daily number types looking for 600-1, are just ignorant.

If you have to blow your money on it....at least give yourself a shot at the millions.

I haven't bought a ticket in years, and I sure wouldn't do it to win what is essentially nothing.

Occasionally, when there has not been a payout for a long time and the payout gets into the 100's of millions, it can be +ev. The # of people entering does not go up proportionately to the increase in payout.

When you account for taxes, none of those $300 million jackpots come close to +EV, especially now that the odds are a lot worse than they were 10 to 15 years ago

Agree, not even the biggest Powerball jackpot was ever truly mathematically +EV

It's actually too much money, IMO. I know , cut in half to get the cash upfront.

I think 10M ( really 5M) is enough for most. I'd rather have a 10X better chance of hitting the 10M, than the 100M.

If you're playing lottery, then you ain't already a millionaire !

I prefer the greater chance of hitting the lesser ( but still....enough) amount.

5M or 50M is not too different to me, the 5M is enough for the rest of my life. I don't need the extra zero, can live on the 5M.

admittedly, i played the scratch offs regularly for a couple years. seems like i had a decent win rate, though down in the long run.

however, once the recession kicked in, it seems like every time i won something, it was a "free ticket". i am convinced that the states modified the fucking shit to bring in more money. i always played the 5 and 10 scratch offs and enjoyed the occasional 100 or 200 winners, but i swear to god, of all the tickets i bought from the beginning of '08 to the end of 08, i never won more than 20 bucks. i haven't touched a scratch off in almost a year.

And I don't mean someone who plays $1 a week or something like that but the people who spend $5 or $10 a day?

I just think they have better chances of betting that on sports and winning over the long run.

I play from my sportsbook (credit shop)

example

<table style="border: 1px solid rgb(51, 102, 153); margin: 15px auto 10px; width: 99%;" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr class="TrGameOdd"><td style="vertical-align: top; text-align: left;">Oct 07 09:39 PM
by: INTERNET</td><td style="vertical-align: top; text-align: left;">2934754</td><td style="vertical-align: top; text-align: left;">
MU
</td><td style="vertical-align: top; text-align: left;">
Oct 07 11:10 PM
</td><td style="vertical-align: top; text-align: left; white-space: nowrap;">STRAIGHT BET
[11008] TOTAL u5½-104
(TAKE 5 LOW # DRAWN vrs TAKE 5 LOW # DRAWN)</td></tr></tbody></table>
I have played this up to $500 a night on rare occasions

from june 27 to july 8th or 9th I hit the low # every day (new york take 5)

I believe the low # came out like 18 drawings in a row
