Its a business and I am in it to make money..The gambler wants to earn and so does the book..The gentlemen who broke me into the business taught me 2 important principles..
1. Always pay the $ the same way you receive it..With a smile on your face..
2. You never want to see anyone lose alot, or win alot..
My customers are the most important part of my business..I cater to them the best ways i know how..I cannot control the winning and losing..

I don't think most players like it when a clerk says good luck and none of ours do.

HISTORIAN AND JUDGE............are correct....a player that never wins will get discouraged and eventually give up or more likely go elsewhere...yes thats a fact ive had guys in the past who couldnt win, start betting with another book because they just wanted to change their luck....

but on the flip side...and ill be totally honest....their are types of guys who might come into some money and want to gamble a little bit, guys who normally dont bet that often....i want to beat this type into the ground....because if they win right out of the gate they are less likely to keep gambling..

I once booked a tennis pro. Week in and week out, the guy usually lost a dime. I booked him for over a year. and he averaged a dime a week even though he did win sometimes... He always paid eevrytime he owed. One day I went to collect and it was around $3,000. He came up to my car, and had an unusual look on his face. He apologized and told me all he had was $800. He then told me that he had lost his life savings to me and a few other outs. He told me his wife just left him and took their ten year old son. Now I've heard everything and sometimes its true. This guy was telling the truth. I told him to keep the $800, forget the $3,000 for now. I asked him is all this worth losing his family? He said he was devasted by what happened. So I told him to make his choice. If he chose his family then he could completely forget the $3K and I would be checking on him. I went to see him a few weeks later and he told me that he was seeing his wife again but she still ahdn't moved back in. He also told me he wasn't betting. About a month later I called again. He had gotten back together with his wife and kid and he was very, very happy. He kept telling me he was going to pay me and I told him he paid us all by putting his family first. I checked on him two or three more times over the next several months and all was ok. I never collecetd the end, I never took another bet from him and I never would... Point is there are exceptions who put life before money, family before money, the right thing before money. This is only one such story in my past and I know that I'd go sell used cars before I would compromise what is right for something as transparent as money. I can't take a dime with me but good expeeriences where people are helped are forever in the hearts of all involved. No money equals that...

Does a stock broker say, "Hey, sorry about that trade I put you in... I'll waive the commision fees."

Does the insurance agent say, "Hey, all you've done is pay premiums for the last several years. You haven't won one bet, er I mean, haven't made one claim... This months premium is on the house."

Does the lawyer say, "Sorry I we lost the case, I'll just cut your bill in half..."

But they all cam still care at least as much as the bookie. Maybe...

MERLYN.............thats a tough one, but it happens all too often...the hardest part is alot of times you never know until the guys is busted before you find out he was having problems...

i mean, if the guy is settling up in full every-week you cant question him.....you cant ask him "have you been robbing banks to keep up???"

NANUK..................if only degenerates were/stayed rich.....lol

Just imagine if you bet the "other" way! Seems like they'd be paying you a lot mor than you'd have to pay!

Books vs Players

Most books would love for a customer to enjoy themselves, be happy with the service, and win 50% of their plays. A well run book doesn't care which players win as long as the bottom line is positive and for any book to get upset at a player for winning indicates the book is gambling. A winning player is valuable to a book and scalpers are what keeps stores in business when all the favorites win.

Its simply common courtesy and in fact most clerks are instructed to say good luck but its common courtesy... Like saying How are you? You think most people care about how you are when they say that? Um no.
