Dick Vitale To Miss Most Of NCAA Tourny

Vitale is scheduled to have hernia surgery on March 19, the first Saturday of the NCAA tournament. He hopes to be able to fly to the Final Four in St. Louis the next week.

Good luck to Dick, the tourny won't be the same without him and his hyper-azz mouth--BABY !!

He gets old fast. I can handle 1 game a week. But after that he gets on my nerves. Especially when your losing. He just get too exited over basketball. He would be great for football. But basketball is about as exciting as baseball.

This guy is soo past his prime..Sure he was kinda humorous 15 years ago, but the novelty has worn off. He offers little insight now (which guys like Andy Katz, Jay Bilas and others on ESPN do)...If he was on the selection committee, there would be 128 teams in the tourney. I hope he has a successful recovery, but the first thing that came to mind when I read he would be out was "Yeah Baby"

he could be doing a game between middle tenn st and brown and during that game somehow bring up reference to Duke basketball and talk about the Blue Devils for God knows how long. He is so far up Coach K's butt it's not even funny. Can't ever seem to get away from talking about Duke.

worked with him a few times in studio in 1991 on some shows - along with Jimmy V (as great a guy to hang around with as they come)

like dickie v - or not - you MUST admit he is GREAT for the game of college hoops and he has made himself into somewhat of an icon (not sure that might be good in his case). love him or hate him - most people have an opionion on him 1 way or another!

you will NEVER hear me say ANYTHING bad about him. as great a guy to work with as there has ever been. i was a piss a*s peon at espn and he treated me like i was Chris Berman! i won't forget my times with him!

Thank you Winky...anyone can see Vitale is a sincere man...yes he can be overboard, yes he loves Duke and he will take up for coaches he's friendly with, but the man is college basketball and really cares.

He would not have called any of these games anyway, he's not with CBS.
