fishhead,
am going to a Boston-Tampa game april 23. Will be my first game at Tampa. I was very surprised at ticket costs at Tampa.
My seats ( OK, they are pretty good) are $42 each. that was the least I could spend to get a good seat. Ticket prices there are very surprisingly high for a team with such modest achievements and hopes for this season.
they need to cut prices, add some fans to empty seats, and look to make some money on concessions and parking from the no longer empty seats.
Fish has some vaild points, particularly around the location of the stadium. Granted, it was built a good 10 years before baseball started, but it's in in a crappy area far from the population center. If they played over by Legends Field--or anywhere this side of the bay--they could increase attendance by 10k a game easy.
Mr. Smith, there are now two tiers of ticket prices--regular and premium. From a quick glance at the sked, the premium games appear to be anytime the Yankees or Red Sox are in town. There's a significant difference. I usually do what Fish apparently did--find a $5 ticket to "The Beach" and then cruise in and sit anywhere. If you walk down into a lower section like you know what you're doing and don't cause a lot of trouble, it's easy to fool the ushers. If you walk down very tentatively, look confused, go back and forth with your buddies about where exactly to sit, you'll get run.
The other option is to get a $5 ticket and then sit in the Bud bar or the cigar bar and catch the game in relative comfort while checking it out on the tube.
Do go to Ferg's before the game. If I get back into town from a business trip in time, I'll be there on 4/23 as well. Otherwise, I'll wait until Saturday.
