I wouldn't knock the A's just yet.

Like the Twins, they seem to land on their feet and look pretty smart at the end of the day.

Billy Bean drafted Zito, Mulder and Hudson. He didn't trade for them so that point makes no sense. He drafted them high in the draft as well and they panned out.

Bean is not known for making trades that work big time. He actually hasn't made a great deal outside of the Johnny Damon trade. Other than that he hasn't made any big time deal.

He is not a trading genius. This is a horrible trade and makes no sense.

What does BB know? The best pitcher in the world can't help if he's always on the DL.

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have acquired pitcher Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics in a six-player trade, a day after the rival Milwaukee Brewers landed CC Sabathia.

The Cubs will receive the right-handed Harden and righty Chad Gaudin for pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielders Matt Murton and Eric Patterson, and minor leaguer John Donaldson.

Harden, scheduled to be a free agent after the 2009 season, is 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts this season.

The oft-injured righty missed a month earlier this season because of a right shoulder strain. It was his sixth trip to the disabled list in his six-year career.

WTF are you talking about?

Oakland got Dan Haren and Daric Barton (great hitting prospect) for Mulder.

Have you seen what Mulder's done since joining the Cards? Nothing.

I'm going out on a limb and saying Billy Beane might no more about the players involved in this trade, then the posters here.

Its crazy, but I think Beane might know a thing or two.

Not this year buddy!

Are the Cubs the favorite to win the World Series yet?

They should be.

What makes this year any different than the rest? Harden will fit in nicely on the DL.

He seems to let a lot of guys go that he shouldn't, then he looks like a genius for letting them go.

The better question is what does this year have to do with the last century?
I think the only players left from the 2003 team are Zambrano, Wood, and Ramirez.

Once again people are too quick to jump the gun saying the team getting the big name player won the trade. The A's made a very good trade like usual. Was it good for the Cubs? Yes because their chance to win is now, not the future. The A's got a stud pitcher in Gallagher (this kid is no number 3 pitcher. Maybe right now, but he could be an ace in the future), Eric Patterson who has tons of potential, Murton who is just a solid bench player and the other kid I don't know about.

Very good trade by both teams, but like in the Sabathia trade I'd say down the road people will say the A's won this trade unless the Cubs win it all this year, which they easily could.

LOL

they get, when he is healthy, one of the best pitchers in the game for a bag of balls.

LOVE this trade, and Hardin is signed through 2009!

Don't forget Leftfielder Steve Bartman......or did they cancel his season tickets?

During ESPNRadio MLB rain delays, they play 20minute resets of famous postseason series using the original ESPN Radio feed

One of my favorites, which I bet I've heard three or four times now, is the 2003 NL Championship Series, Game 6

It just never gets old hearing that eighth inning jump forward immediately after the ESPN play by play guy says, "Only five outs to go and the Cubs will break the century long jinx!!"

No difference. Just like every other '08 since the advent of the game of baseball. Cubs win the World Series.

the Indians got one of the best prospects in baseball. La Porte is one of the top 20 prospects in baseball while Gallagher barely broke the top 100 at the beginning of the season. Murton is nothing more than a utility player and Patterson is nothing to go ga ga over.

The catcher the A's got is not very good. He is hitting 205 in A ball and I don't just say that based on numbers.

This was a steal for the Cubs. HARDEN IS SIGNED THROUGH NEXT YEAR! This isn't a rental. The A's didn't need to unload him until next season and it makes no sense because of that.

As I said unless the A's know something physically about Harden the trade makes no sense.

Also Haren isn't on the team anymore and the other "hitting prospect" will be lucky to see more than two years of time in the Big Leagues.

What utilities does Murton have? I like Murton, but 'utility player' usually refers to a player that plays a bunch of positions or does a bunch of things well. Murton is a LF only and a pretty poor one defensively. He also has no power or speed. What he does well is he has a good eye at the plate and could hit for a decent avg and obp if he gets a chance to play every day, maybe even as a DH. But he's basically a one tool guy.

I dont think you are getting it. What has mulder, Hudson, and Zito done since they left the A's. Now that you see that how can you doubt that he knows when to get and dump pitchers. Look at the money they would have had to pay these three, are they even close to worth it now. I see the points you are making. The point i think people forget it. That all the bashers said the same things when the zito, mulder and hudson stuff went down. Do I think the A's made out. Off course I dont. But I trust there is more to Harden injury or mechanic's or something that we dont know about.

Even if Harden pitched one game for the Cubs, they gave away NOTHING in this trade, might as well have been a bag of balls
