Queen....What exactly is "the poisen" I'm spreading? Please tell me where I'm wrong in what I say. I love to be corrected when I'm wrong. Let's hear it.

I'm getting the impression that I've said some things that are making you re-think the naive "glass is half full," think positive outlook you have on CR and that's why this is so upsetting for you.

Where am I wrong...and be specific. If it's "go home" don't bother replying to this.

Queen,

You're starting to let some of the mystery unravel, so you are American and located in Costa Rica. You also say you don't work in the sportsbook industry so I'm not sure what your purpose is in posting here. I'm also sensing some tones of a braggart and am starting to wonder if you're not one of the "Ugly American" types that so embarrass me down here as a countryman of mine.

It's not only saddening but also frustrating to see people not willing to open their mind? I remember one of your posts, about a year ago, when you compared CR to Argentina at earl stages... I couldn't agree with you more.

Queenie...I hate to break this to you, but for someone who has such violently alergic reactions to hearing any negativity or criticism, you sound pretty f*cking negative yourself. Go back to the drawing board and try to come up with another philosophy on life that will better serve your strong need to be self-righteous.

If you don't care about my opinions or anyone else's, then piss-off and quit replying to all this crap. If I'm getting under your skin and you can't get me out of your mind, then keep replying. It sounds like you DO care.

My purpose with this thread is discussing some of the problems of being an American living in this country. People considering moving here and investing here should know what they're getting into and what to expect.

Queen...you still haven't posted anything that pertains to the subject of this thread...so what is your purpose? I think we're all impressed that you have a business going on here. Is that it?

queen,

What I meant with the "purpose" thing is that this website is dedicated primarily to those that gamble on sports then it also offers this little play pen for those of working in the industry.
You emphasized that you don't, so again what brings you?

Now as far as the Ugly American thing, I didn't actually call you that yet. However as an American that's more integrated into this culture than just about any I've met in 11-12 years here, and a person that loves the country, people and the life he's found here, the pompousness you continue to display in your posts still has me wondering about you.

The thing is that you don't even make it clear as to what it is that supposed to be understood.

If you're talking about the types of Americans that come down here have no interest in learning Spanish or the culture, complain about everything and spend all their time at the Del Rey, I can understand (and agree with) why you don't like them. But as I say I'm not really sure who or what you're talking about. If you're just talking about people that complain about things down here, there's a big difference between complaining about things that are culturally different and things that are just wrong. For example I wouldn't complain about gallo pinto, I actually enjoy it, on the other hand I see nothing wrong with critizing the drastic increase in violence since I got here roughly 13 years ago. That not only is sad but also an issue that should be addressed.

American, the $57 billion suit has been dropped. Apparently Pacheco had good ole Bush give them a "suggestion".

I imagine Harken used that suit as a ploy to show they were serious. They probably just want the $15 million back. Imagine the bribes the Tico "officials" took to get the contract approved in the first place.

I just love it when these 3rd world countries point their finger at the U.S. for all their woes. Being an American living in South America for the last 4 years I've become very accustomed to it. All these latin american 3rd world countries problems stem from one thing....E-D-U-C-A-T-I-O-N! But ask them to make education their number 1 priority!! NEVER!! Why? Because the thieving politicians, who are the richest people living in these countries know well that once the majority of their people are educated, their political systems as well as the rest of their "way of life" will change....for the betterment of the people! They absolutely DO NOT want this! They would no longer be able to employ workers for minimum wages in the neighborhood of $80 per month. They would no longer be able to get hundreds of billions of dollars from the IMF and the cash end up in Swiss bank accounts. They have a HUGE interest in keeping the masses ignorant.

Evil america, evil america, it's always much easier to point your finger and say, "It's their fault our country is like this", than to take responsibility for the condition of your country and do something about it, and if that means revolution and dying for your country for the betterment of future generations than so be it! Get off your drunk latin asses, need to remove the puta off your lap first, and DO SOMETHING!

In the history of the world, whoever "owns the gold makes the rules", and today is no different. Of course America is out for America!! I think it's great when I hear people talk like the United States is the ****ing Red Cross! Give me a break, wake up and smell the coffee, or the cocaine, or the putas. Take responsibility for your conditions....no one can change them except YOU!

Sing that one in the church on Sunday!!!

They brag about the educational system here in CR because they have a 93% literacy rate. 40% of the children in CR never complete secondary school though. Whatever. The CR educational system is good for churning out low wage slaves. What a bright future CR has to look forward to.

Nice try there with the education bit, but the reality is that even if they did spend more on education it would take generations before things change. People in much of Latin America consider success to be have children that do better in their lives than they do, nothing more or less. If you finished 5th grade then if you kids make it through 6th and get a job that pays a little more than yours well then they are a success. Just because schools are available and good doesn't mean that this parent would say well I better make sure my kids all finish college. It just doesn't work that way, expectations are what they are and people just value things different. I definitely agree better education system in CR would be a bonus, but reality is most of the population has financial needs that require kids to not even come close to finishing school. The US isn't far behind this anymore, the cost of education is getting so high that many kids will have to cut their potential studies short just for cost reasons while everyone from all sides points and blames others.

It may seem counterintuitive but the best way to make education more accessible for those that need it is to make it less accessible in general. Make a college degree really worth something by limiting the numbers who can get them and forcing those less willing to sacrifice go to lesser schools. As it is now, the education system in CR favors the rich because they can afford to send their kids there or their kids are the only ones that can afford to postpone work. So it just perpetuates the cycle. Affirmative action may not be the best plan, but making sure that people of lesser means have the opportunity to succeed in school is important for all societies and I don't think you see that in the lower income countries because it is just the perpetuation of the ruling class keeping themselves in power.

Well of course WildBill, it's not going to be an overnight remedy, but it is the remedy. Believe me, I live here, been married here, divorced here, have opened a couple businesses here, have friends in all walks of life here, including a couple close friends that are politicians. They have a vested interest in keeping the masses ignorant and that's not an opinion, that's a fact. I live in a small city on the northeast coast, probably the most backward coastal city in this country, and believe me, the people here want for their children the same thing Americans do, for their children to get college educations and good jobs to support themselves. Kind of difficult though when the number of major universities in this entire country number less than the number that exists in the state of Michigan.

i don't remember the name of the project,
when the 2nd, world war finished, europe
was devastated, the reconstruction took billions of dollars, Venezuela is the 2nd OIL provider over the world, since they abroad their first barrel, they have made 7 times, the money of that project was spent for the reconstruction of europe.. now, why Venezuela still as a 3rd ascribe Country.

Transgressors = Politicians...
anyways, i know it is not fair
some people are rich some others don't
but, lets take a look, how difficult
for some of you is to cross san jose
at an apex hour... too many cars,
but they pay big taxes, now imagine
every nicaraguan or colombian who comes to
our country buys a car...,
how come all of us, pays the CCSS, (CAJA),
and if you feel sick, Drs, just give us a few pain tablets after 3 hours of 150 nicaraguans queue...

i think our country nowadays its perfect..
we have peace, chorizo, and transgressors,,,

im tottally leaning on this TLC Communications, aperture, and any OIL proposal,..

Cheers Newbie, a real conservative cunt...
