Monday Musings: Colts make right call

I can't believe the outrage over the decision by Colts coach Jim Caldwell to sit down his starters against the Jets with a 15-10 lead in the second half. He didn't have to play them at all, but he did. I wouldn't have. That's the right of the coach. All those fans of teams that the game impacted need to shut their mouths. If their teams had taken care of business along the way, they wouldn't have needed the help of the Colts. I keep hearing integrity of the game stuff, but that's absurd. We know the Colts have clinched the No. 1 seed. Caldwell could have started all backups, and nobody should have said a word. The Jets can now get into the playoffs with a victory against the Bengals. That's why the Steelers and Texans and Broncos might not be happy. Too bad. The Colts don't need to apologize to anybody. It's about winning the Super Bowl. Not going undefeated. And for those of you trying to throw fuel on the fire by implying that Peyton Manning wasn't happy about the decision, I don't think that's true. I talked to Manning after the Colts beat the Jaguars 10 days ago, and he was much more concerned about the playoffs than an unbeaten season. And he meant it. The Colts had the right to do what they did. It's happened before and it will happen again. What if the Patriots rest Tom Brady this week at Houston because they'd rather have the No. 4 seed than the No. 3 seed? Isn't that the same thing? You do what's best for your football team, the rest of the league and their fans be damned.

dont know if someone mentioned this , but this was as much about playing in buffalo this week as anything else.

say they are 15-0 and have to play in shit conditions.. i'd be worried about my star players.

fuck undefeated .. is that what every team talks about in training camp ?

no.. winning the bowl is..

True but as of todays date, going 16-0 is a much easier accomplishment at this point. There is no guarantee that they are going to win the SB this year. They couldve however went 16-0, so that if they lose in the playoffs they could say they were one of the few perfect teams in the regular season. Sure the SB is the ultimate goal, but I wouldve made 16-0 a goal too, then the SB. Just wouldve kept momentum rolling. I wouldnt be surprised if the Colts lose in the playoffs now much like they did when Pittsburgh upset them. They looked rusty that game after the time off.

Tom Coughlin proved all these morons wrong in 2007.

Last game of the year against New England, the Giants played to win. They lost, but then had an edge to them. They went on to win 4 straight games on the road.

This is the typical "prevent defense" being played by Indy.

Awmllc,

I think your posts are getting better and you're starting to make sense. You don't sound retarded anymore.

Oops... that's because you're cutting-and-pasting... no problem ... keep it up.

could very easily lose in the playoffs... they've done it many times..

i do think if week 16 was a home game against oakland , they wouldnt have pulled the starters last week....

actually, both teams played to win when neither had to using Polian's logic for losers, and both teams continued to win until only one of them could win.

Colts GM is a just a selfish douche. There's really no other explanation for why he did what he did. And anyone who defends it is also clueless or just being a homer and blindly defending a dumbass decision.

Starters might get injured? NOPE. Didn't in first half so that is a garbage excuse.

How did going for the perfect season work out for the Patriots? Nuff said!

you're right, lets look at that

Patriots play to win the games, make it to the SB and lose in the last minute on a fluke play

Colts rested their players twice before, both 1st round losses

do you really want to go there? LOL

that's for helping to prove our point :toast:

Last I checked...Going out in the first round means the same as losing in the last second of the SB.

uh, no, no and no

from a football & business & championship perspective, winning a conference championship means more prestige and more MONEY

from a fan perspective, it's much more fun to win two games and participate in the best SB game of all time than it is to be upset at home in your first playoff game

from a competitive perspective, the real argument being made here, it's an indication that one team knows how to stay sharp, and the other team knows how to flop.

So you're wrong when it comes to money, fun, championships, recognition and most importantly, the competitive edge.
