I was thinking about this last night. It seems that there are many, many coaches that we'd like to shoot dead on any particular night but how many coaches actually impress the hell out of you ?

here in the mid west, I'll start out with a couple that I think have done a great job this year.

Mick Cronin from Cinci has taken a Bearcat squad that could not beat BG or Belmont on their own floor and has this team defending very well and can now hang with the big boys in the big east. Cinci has become a covering machine for me.

Rob Jeter. Since booting his best player Torre Johnson from the team Jeter has his panthers playing as a team again recently winning 5 in a row after opening the year 3-7 with a quality win at Valpo.

Feel free to agree/ disagree and add your own.

I will steal a name from Prodigy but Gary Walters of Cleveland State gets my vote. This team was a laughing stock in the Horizon league for years and now has this team in first place and won some big games on the road this year like tough places in the past like @ Detroit when they were 0-20 there lifetime and @Wright State last night and beat Florida State on the road. But Now face a tough stretch now with Butler and Valpo coming to Cleveland State and than play 4 straight road games after that.

Scott Drew. No coach has had to deal with more outside distractions. One year, Baylor wasn't even allowed to play a non-conference schedule or go to the Big 12 tournament. They are finally on a level playing field as far as recruiting, if you want to call it that.

Billy Gillispie, he turned A&M into a powerhouse, should have stayed with them but I have no doubt he will get Kentucky back to a top team in a few years.

I second the Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He dumped all the talent in the beginning of the season and nobody thought they would even be competing. Boy are they surprising teams.

funny thing about jeter is that he developed a reputation as a good recruiter but weak coach. lots of people were wondering if he was just living off of pearl's program. but credit is due at this point because uwm could have totally mailed in the season. everyone knows about torre johnson getting kicked off the team. but uwm also booted their leading scorer from last season too. in the preseason, i thought uwm (assuming they didnt lose those guys) could compete with butler for the horizon title. but there were plenty of chemistry issues. yet this team still didnt fold the tent when they could have easily done so. they have yet to lose since the johnson incident.

I third that. Ballsy move that has paid dividends thus far. Their D and overall team play has been very impressive since dismissing those players.

The line has yet to catch up as they have been a covering machine of late. (with the exception of yesterday)

Good call. It will take a few years, but Beilein will get UM turned around.

Jeff Capel at OU is a very good young coach.

Phil Martelli's always been underrated for the job he's done at St. Joe's.

Gillispie will be fine, but UK made a mistake not hiring Travis Ford.

When Capel came in last year all the talent had left. Can you imagine this year having seniors Lavender(Xavier), McKenzie(Minnesota), Foust(SE MO), and 1st round draft picks Scotty Reynolds(Villinova) and Damien James(Texas) along with freshman monster(that's what Beasley calls him) Griffin. He has never made any excuses since he has been in Norman. The said thing is he will get tired of the football mentality at OU and end up where he is appreciated.

Scott Drew and Mick Cronin are two doing great jobs right now at turning around programs that needed it badly.

Baylor is much improved and has to be considered ahead of where anyone thought they would be at this point after the situation down there Drew came into.

Cincy has gone from an easy win to a....we better come to play tonight type of team in a few months.

[1st round draft picks Scotty Reynolds(Villinova)

You are joking right? Have you seen him play, he hasn't met a shot he didn't like.

Also, let him know that the 360 spin move in traffic works if you are Baron Davis.
