Game of the Day: Lightning at Blackhawks
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tampa Bay Lightning at Chicago Blackhawks (-155, 5.5)

Lightning leads series 2-1

With questions clouding his availability, Ben Bishop more than answered the bell to help the Tampa Bay Lightning claim a 2-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup final. Regardless of what ails him, the 6-7 goaltender looks to stand tall as he attempts to propel the Lightning to within one win of the franchise's second championship when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 4 on Wednesday.

"It's going to take a lot not to play in a Stanley Cup final game, personally," said Bishop, who turned aside 36 shots in Tampa Bay's 3-2 win on Monday despite visibly laboring to both stand and move laterally. Bishop improved to 8-3 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .947 save percentage on the road for the Lightning, who have won four straight away from home and a franchise-best eight this postseason. Although the Blackhawks have dropped consecutive games for the first time in the playoffs, they are no stranger to overcoming a 2-1 series deficit in the Stanley Cup final - having done so against Boston in 2013. "For whatever reason, we play our best games when our backs are against the wall," defenseman Brent Seabrook said.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports

LINE HISTORY: The Blackhawks opened at -150 favorites before being bet to -155. The total opened at 5.5 and has remained there.

INJURY REPORT: Lightning - D Mattias Ohlund (IR-Knee) Blackhawks - Michal Rozsival (Out-Ankle)

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING: Coach Jon Cooper had no issue heaping praise toward Victor Hedman after the defenseman feathered a pair of highlight-reel passes en route to his second straight two-assist performance on Monday. "Victor Hedman, what he's doing, I mean, this is clearly his coming-out party," Cooper said of Hedman, whose 13 assists are just five shy of Chicago's Duncan Keith and Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf for the overall lead. "(Hedman) sets that (first goal) up and then makes a big-time play on the winner (by Cedric Paquette with 3:11 remaining in the third period). He was a monster out there." Hedman's involvement on the offensive end has been a boon for Tampa Bay, which boasts a 9-1 mark in the postseason when the blue-liner records at least one point.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS: Speaking of Keith, the two-time Norris Trophy recipient continued to shoulder the load by setting up another goal in Game 3 while logging 31:37 of ice time. Keith's assist total trails only Edmonton's Paul Coffey (25, 1985), Calgary's Al MacInnis (24, 1989), New York Rangers' Brian Leetch (23, 1994) and Boston's Bobby Orr (19, 1972) among defensemen in one playoff year. Superstar Patrick Kane and captain Jonathan Toews are singing much different tunes after excelling in the first three rounds, with the former being held off the scoresheet in all three games of the Stanley Cup final while the latter has just one assist.

TRENDS:

*Lightning are 4-0 in their last 4 road games.
*Blackhawks are 6-1 in their last 7 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game.
*Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Chicago.
*Under is 5-1 in Lightning last 6 road games

CONSENSUS: According to Consensus, 76 percent of the action is on the Hawks.

Lightning G Ben Bishop, probable Wednesday

Bishop is expected to start Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Blackhawks despite dealing with a lingering lower-body injury.

Bolts' Bishop is a brick wall on the road

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop proved to be a road warrior once again in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday, stopping 36 of 38 Chicago Blackhawks shots sent his way en route to a 3-2 victory.

Bishop improved to 8-3 on the road in the postseason. The hulking netminder owns a microscopic 1.50 GAA and .947 save percentage in games outside of Florida.

Tampa can take a 3-1 stranglehold on the series Wednesday in the Windy City. Sportsbooks are presently offering the Bolts as +140 pups for the tilt.

Blackhawks thrive when down 2-1 in playoff series

We've seen enough from the Chicago Blackhawks in the Jonathan Toews/Patrick Kane era to know that they can never be counted out, but just how good they are at coming back when trailing in the postseason may surprise you.

The Hawks have rallied from a 2-1 series deficit to emerge triumphant in four out of their last five playoff series. Joel Quenneville's squad find themselves down 2-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final but will have an opportunity to even things up at the United Center on Wednesday.

In the wake of Game 3's loss, Sports Interaction has tabbed the Hawks as +135 underdogs to hoist Lord Stanley's holy grail.

Don't back the Rangers until you read this first

Texas Rangers pitcher Yovani Gallardo has only started three games against the Oakland A's in his career but, needless to say, he has been abysmal against them.

Gallardo is 0-3 with a 6.48 ERA - his worst against any club in Major League Baseball - and 1.50 WHIP in those starts. He's allowed 19 hits and 13 runs in 16 2/3 innings of work.

Furthermore, two of those starts have come this season. The righty has tossed 10 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 13 hits.

Gallardo will give it another shot in Oakland with his Rangers as +133 dogs Wednesday.

Diamondbacks' nightmare in L.A. continues

Following Wednesday’s series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Arizona Diamondbacks don’t return to Dodger Stadium again until Sept. 21. That’s welcome news for the Diamondbacks, who have lost eight straight games and 12 of their last 13 at Chavez Ravine.

The Dbacks lost the first game of their most recent series 9-3 and the fell 3-1 Tuesday evening. The Snakes have been outscored 27-8 in five meetings at Dodgers Stadium this season.

Jeremy Hellickson is the probable starter who will try to end the drought Wednesday evening. The Dodgers are scheduled to counter with Brett Anderson.

Braves add veteran Aardsma to aid struggling bullpen

ATLANTA -- Searching for any possible help for their bullpen woes, the Atlanta Braves promoted veteran right-hander David Aardsma after just one relief appearance for Triple-A Gwinnett.

"He signed with the right team," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

Atlanta also just added veteran left-hander Dana Eveland on a minor league deal and he could be the next in line for a promotion from Gwinnett.

The Braves lost for the 13th time Monday after being ahead or tied in the seventh inning and had the worst bullpen ERA in the majors at 4.90.

Cody Martin, who took the loss in the series opener against San Diego by allowing two runs in the 11th inning, was optioned to Gwinnett to make room for Aardsma.

Gonzalez didn't waste any time getting Aardsma into a game and the veteran responded by retiring the only batter in faced Tuesday against the Padres with a runner in scoring position.

Aardsma was signed by the Braves after opting out of his minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He converted 15 straight save opportunities for Triple-A Oklahoma City and had a 2.41 ERA in 20 games.

The 33-year-old pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts for Gwinnett on Sunday.

Aardsma had last pitched in the majors with the New York Mets in 2013. He came into this year with 298 career appearances and a 4.23 ERA.

The Braves bullpen has continuously imploded for more than two weeks, posting a 7.82 ERA over a 14-game stretch.

"You just have to keep running them out there," Gonzalez said.

Aardsma is the 18th reliever already employed by the Braves this season. They used just 13 both last year and 2013.

Yankees' faith in Drew paying off

NEW YORK -- At a panel discussion in midtown-Manhattan Monday night with Yankees beat writers, a few fans asked questions about Stephen Drew and whether he would last the entire year or if the Yankees would make a change at second base.

Their reasons were because he took a .168 average into Tuesday and they were not sold on manager Joe Girardi's constant explanations of him hitting into tough-luck or making hard outs.

On Tuesday, those fans saw why Drew still is on the team as he hit two solo home runs in a 6-1 win over the Washington Nationals.

On a homestand when Bryce Harper, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols have homered against the Yankees, Drew has four home runs. Of his 31 hits, nine have gone over the fence.

"His hits are extremely productive, that's the bottom line," Girardi said after Drew's fourth career multi-home run game and second on the homestand. "He's swung the bat well. He's swinging the bat well and hopefully he's over that point where he hits the ball hard and they're hits. I thought he had some bad luck. He made that little adjustment and it seemed to help."

Drew is still hitting .175 but has six hits in his last 24 at-bats. When asked about some of the improvement at the plate, he has cited an unspecified mechanical adjustment he made while getting two days off in Oakland.

"It's just working on things, looking on at-bats, going back and really trying not to do too much and trying to clear my head and give the best chance I have up there," Drew said. "I played this game for a long time and trust myself. The good thing is a little adjustment here and it's paid dividends."

The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays both extended their respective win streaks to seven games after victories Tuesday night.

The AL East leading Yankee topped the Washington Nationals 6-1, while the Blue Jays, who trail the Yanks by 4.0 games, got a walk-off 4-3 win over Miami.

The 33-25 Yankees (-125) send Nathan Eovaldi to take on Gio Gonzalez of the Nats, while the 30-30 Jays (-145) call on Scott Copeland to face Tom Koehler.

The Yanks and Jays don't meet again until a three game series in New York Aug. 7-9.

Mariners not scoring, Under bets red hot

The Seattle Mariners are having trouble plating runners and Under bettors have been reaping the rewards.

The Mariners have scored three or less runs in a franchise-record 13 consecutive games heading into Wednesday's meeting with the Cleveland Indians.

The club is averaging just 2.1 runs scored per game over that stretch, with the Over/Under sitting at 4-9 and the Under cashing in six-straight.

Oddsmakers have a total of 8 on the board for Wednesday's contest. Taijuan Walker is probable to start for the Mariners with Trevor Bauer scheduled for the Indians.

Hot umpire trend for Phillies-Reds game

The Philadelphia Phillies are 6-0 in their last six ball games when umpire Mike DiMuro is working behind home plate.

DiMuro will be behind the dish when the Phillies and Cincinnati Reds conclude their three-game series at Great American Ball Park Wednesday afternoon.

DiMuro has worked home plate in 12 games so far this season with the home team 7-5 and the Over/Under count 7-5.
