CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Avery Bradley had 31 points on a career-high eight 3-pointers, and Boston defeated Charlotte 104-98 on Saturday night.

Bradley was 8 of 11 from beyond the arc and had 11 rebounds as the Celtics shot 75 percent from the field in the fourth quarter.

Isaiah Thomas had 24 points and seven assists and Al Horford added 14 points for the Celtics, who trailed by one entering the fourth quarter.

Boston finished 15 of 31 from 3-point range, while the Hornets were just 9 of 32.

Kemba Walker led the Hornets in their home opener with 29 points, while Frank Kaminsky had 11 points and four rebounds in his first regular season action.

---

KNICKS 111, GRIZZLIES 104

NEW YORK (AP) - Kristaps Porzingis scored 21 points, Carmelo Anthony had 20 and New York used a fast start and strong finish to beat Memphis in its home opener.

Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Courtney Lee all had impressive moments in their first home games at Madison Square Garden, and Anthony converted the three-point play that sparked the decisive spurt.

Rose had a couple of crossovers and quick bursts into the lane that showed his legs looked healthy and scored 13 points. Noah finished with six points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, and Lee scored 16 points as the Knicks got their first win under coach Jeff Hornacek after falling apart in the second half and getting routed 117-88 by Cleveland in the NBA season opener.

Marc Gasol scored 20 points for the Grizzlies.

---

CAVALIERS 105, MAGIC 99

CLEVELAND (AP) - LeBron James scored 23 points, Kyrie Irving added 20 and Cleveland beat Orlando for the 15th straight time.

Kevin Love scored 19 points to help the NBA champion Cavaliers improve to 3-0. They haven't lost to the Magic since Nov. 23, 2012, in Orlando.

Evan Fournier scored 22 points for Orlando. The Magic cut a 22-point deficit to 88-85 with 4 minutes to play, but J.R. Smith hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 in the fourth quarter.

Smith made 3-pointers on consecutive possessions and Cleveland forced a shot-clock violation. James followed with two baskets, including a left-handed finish at the rim.

Serge Ibaka converted a three-point play and hit a free throw, cutting the lead to 98-95 with 45 seconds left, but Smith's 3-pointer from the corner pushed the lead to six.

---

BUCKS 110, NETS 108

MILWAUKEE (AP) - John Henson's tip-in at the buzzer gave Milwaukee its first victory of the season.

Rashad Vaughn scored a career-high 22 points, including six 3-pointers, for Milwaukee. Giannis Antetokounmpo added 21 points and 11 rebounds. He scored all of his points in the paint, including seven dunks.

Vaughn, who surpassed his previous career high of 12 points, hit consecutive 3-pointers that gave Milwaukee a seven-point lead late in the fourth quarter. But after Matthew Dellavedova missed a driving layup, Bojan Bogdanovic nailed a 3-pointer to tie the score with 11.6 seconds remaining, setting up Henson's heroics.

Bogdanovic's 26 points led the Nets, who made just 11 of 35 3-point attempts.

---

BULLS 118, PACERS 101

CHICAGO (AP) - Doug McDermott had 23 points, Jimmy Butler added 16 on 6-of-9 shooting and Rajon Rondo had 13 assists to lead the Bulls to their second straight victory to open the season.

McDermott scored 11 points in the fourth quarter as coach Fred Hoiberg gave his veteran starters - Butler, Rondo and Dwyane Wade, who had 14 points - the rest of the night off after the third quarter.

Taj Gibson had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Robin Lopez added 12 points for the Bulls.

Paul George and Myles Turner had 20 points apiece to lead the Pacers (1-2).

The Bulls had a 24-20 lead at the end of the first quarter before breaking things open with a dominant second. They scored 38 points on 14-for-18 (77.8 percent) shooting in the quarter to race out to a 62-41 halftime lead.

---

SPURS 98, PELICANS 79

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Kawhi Leonard had 20 points and San Antonio won in its home opener.

The Spurs won their first season opener in 20 years without Tim Duncan, who retired in the offseason. San Antonio played without any of its Big Three as Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili both sat out to rest in the first night of back-to-back games.

San Antonio didn't appear to miss them, as 11 players scored to help the team remain unbeaten after three games.

Patty Mills scored 18 points starting in place of Parker, and LaMarcus Aldridge had 12 points.

Pelicans forward Anthony Davis was held to 18 points after scoring 50 and 45 points in the first two games. Aldridge picked up three fouls in the first half as Davis' primary defender, but still managed to hold the 6-foot-10 forward to 6-for-15 shooting in the game.

E'Twaun Moore also had 18 points for New Orleans (0-3).

---

HAWKS 104, 76ERS 72

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Paul Millsap scored 17 points to lead five Hawks in double figures.

Kyle Korver chipped in 15 points and Mike Muscala added 14 for Atlanta.

The Hawks barely needed top offseason acquisition Dwight Howard. The big man had just two points and seven rebounds in his second game for his hometown team after signing a three-year, $70 million free-agent contract this summer. The 31-year-old center had 19 rebounds and 11 points in Atlanta's season-opening 114-99 win over Washington on Thursday.

Dennis Schroder had 11 points and 11 assists for Atlanta.

Joel Embiid and Sergio Rodriguez had 14 points apiece for the 76ers.

Sunday’s six-pack

Here are the six most popular picks in Week 8 of the Westgate Super Contest in Las Vegas:

1– Patriots (742) -6.5

2– Chargers (631) +5.5

3– Raiders (627) +1.5

4– Falcons (463) -3

5– Saints (460) +2.5

6– Eagles (434) +4.5

Season record: 14-27-1

Sunday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday…..

13) Wyoming 30, Boise State 28— Wyoming coach Craig Bohl won three consecutive I-AA national titles at North Dakota State; this is his third year in Laramie- he went 4-8/2-10 in his first two years, but behind the terrific soph QB Allen, Cowboys are 6-2 and on a serious roll. This is a great, great win for Wyoming, which trailed 21-7 early.

12) Clemson 37, Florida State 34— This was a great college football game.

Showtime will have tough time whittling highlights of this game into their Tuesday night reality show on the Seminoles. I said this once before this year and I’ll say it again; Dalvin Cook is the best college RB in the country. He is a beast and he plays every game.

Trivia: Rex Ryan’s son is Clemson’s long snapper.

Florida State QB Francois got pummeled in this game; he was like the QB in the movie Friday Night Lights in the climactic state championship game— he got crushed, but that was a movie and this was very real. Young Francois is a freshman and a damn tough kid.

11) Temple 34, Cincinnati 13— Why hasn’t Temple coach Matt Rhule gotten a better job? Guy is 21-13 in his last 34 games at Temple, where winning one game used to be a big deal. Owls outgained Cincy 474-186 in this one- they’ve won five of their last six games.

10) Auburn 40, Ole Miss 29— Brent Musburger is 77 years old; if I’m lucky enough to live that long, I pray to God that I have Brent’s enthusiasm and energy for what he does. He is still the best at his job. This wasn’t an easy game to call, with not many huddles and lot of scoring, but Brent and analyst Jesse Palmer are a great team and a pleasure to listen to.

9) Texas 35, Baylor 34— Bears lost a fumble inside the Texas 10 and kicked FGs of 24 and 27 years, meaning they failed in the red zone and that cost them this game.

8) Notre Dame 30, Miami 27— Hurricanes are now 4-4 after a 4-0 start; they stormed back from down 20-0 to lead 27-20, but couldn’t finish the job. There was a time when this was THE GAME of the regular season in college football; that seems like a long time ago, because it was.

7) Texas Tech 27, TCU 24 OT— Last year, Horned Frogs beat Tech 55-52; two years ago, it was 82-28, so you know Kliff Kingsbury has to be a happy man today.

6) South Carolina 24, Tennessee 21— I was at this game in 2008; what a great day. Sat all day in a folding chair in a field next to a Winnebago, watching a flatscreen TV that was in the luggage compartment of the Winnebago and attached to a satellite dish. Ate Church’s fried chicken, the best fried chicken ever and talked football for 6 or 7 hours before going across the street to the stadium. It was 75-80 degrees in late October; good stuff.

5) Houston 31, Central Florida 24— UCF led this game 21-3 at the half; Knights were winless last year, but are 4-4 and will be very good soon if they can keep coach Frost in Orlando. As for Houston, they’ve lost their confidence/swagger with two losses- maybe this will help them get it back.

4) Thursday night was Upset Night in the MAC this week; 16.5-point dog Ohio U won 31-26 at Toledo, 18-point underdog Buffalo won at home over the Akron Zips.

3) Michigan 32, Michigan State 23— Spartans had bedeviled Michigan for most of the last decade and gave them fits here, but Wolverines held on and State is 0-5 in the Big 14 for the first time since 1982.

2) Washington 31, Utah 24— Huskies are 8-0 but because they play in the northwest, no one in the media cares too much. Washington coach Chris Petersen was the Boise State coach who won that bowl game against Oklahoma with a trick play- he is building a powerhouse in the Pac-12. Their Apple Cup game with Washington State will be a huge game nationally.

1— Kent State 27, Central Michigan 24— Golden Flashes kicked a FG at the gun to win it; their kicker wears #57 but doesn’t look like a LB or a center. Didn’t have lot of faith in him to make the kick but he did, so tonight, he is big man on campus, which must be a happy campus with the nearby Indians leading the World Series 3-1.

PHOENIX (AP) Kevin Durant scored 37 points, Stephen Curry added 28 and the Golden State Warriors held off the pesky Phoenix Suns 106-100 on Sunday.

The Warriors didn't seal the victory until Curry's two free throws with 12.9 seconds to play. Durant added a pair of free throws with seven seconds left to provide the final margin.

T.J. Warren scored 26 points and Eric Bledsoe had 21 for the winless Suns, who took the Thunder into overtime in Oklahoma City on Friday night. Tyson Chandler grabbed 18 rebounds for Phoenix.

The Suns led by as many as 13 in the first half. The Warriors finally took somewhat shaky control midway through the final quarter.

THUNDER 112, LAKERS 96

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Russell Westbrook scored 33 points as part of another triple-double to help Oklahoma City beat Los Angeles to remain unbeaten.

Westbrook, coming off a 51-point triple-double against the Phoenix Suns on Friday, also had 16 assists and 12 rebounds against the Lakers. According to the Thunder, he joined Magic Johnson, Jerry Lucas and Oscar Robertson as the only players in NBA history with two triple-doubles in the first three games of a season.

The Thunder have won 20 straight regular-season games when Westbrook registers a triple-double. He clinched this one, the 39th of his career, in the third quarter. He ended the game with season averages of 38.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and 11.7 assists.

Victor Oladipo added 20 points for the Thunder.

D'Angelo Russell and Julius Randle each scored 20 points for the Lakers.

SPURS 106, HEAT 99

MIAMI (AP) - Kawhi Leonard scored 14 of his 27 points in the final 6:04, doing so with a bandage under his right eye and helping San Antonio hold off Miami to remain unbeaten.

Leonard left the game with 8:29 remaining to be tended to and returned for the final 6:48.

Pau Gasol had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs, who wasted a 16-point first-half lead before recovering. Patty Mills added 18 for San Antonio, the first team to get to 4-0 in this young NBA season.

Hassan Whiteside made his final seven shots and tied a career-high with 27 points for Miami, also grabbing 15 rebounds. Goran Dragic scored 25 points and Justise Winslow added 18 for the Heat.

ROCKETS 93, MAVERICKS 92

HOUSTON (AP) - James Harden made a free throw with 0.1 seconds left, lifting Houston over Dallas in its home opener.

Harden had 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. He was fouled by Wesley Matthews on a driving layup at the buzzer with the game tied, then made the second of two free-throw attempts.

After trailing by 10 entering the fourth quarter, Dallas tied it at 92 with a 3-pointer by Matthews with 4.1 seconds remaining.

Matthews led Dallas with 25 points and J.J. Barea scored 18 points off the bench. In falling to the Rockets for the second time in three days, the Mavericks fell to 0-3 for the first time since 2011-12, the lockout-shortened season following their title.

CLIPPERS 88, JAZZ 75

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Austin Rivers scored 19 points, Blake Griffin added 18 and Los Angeles routed Utah in its home opener.

Jamal Crawford had 12 points, and DeAndre Jordan had 16 rebounds despite spraining his right thumb.

George Hill led the Jazz with 18 points and reserve Dante Exum added 10. Joe Johnson, who had 29 points in his Utah debut, was held to seven points on 3-of-9 shooting.

The Clippers took the lead for good in the second quarter on Griffin's fast-break dunk. It was part of a 22-4 run over both halves that pushed their lead to 49-35. Six different Clippers contributed to the spurt, led by Griffin's seven points.

GRIZZLIES 112, WIZARDS 103, OT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Marc Gasol scored 20 points, including a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime, to help Memphis beat Washington.

The game was tied in regulation after Gasol's 3 from 27 feet with 15.7 seconds left in regulation tied the score at 100-all. John Wall's 9-foot attempt at the horn was off, sending the game to an extra period.

Gasol then connected on two more 3s in overtime as Memphis opened a 112-100 advantage to seal the win.

Mike Conley had 24 points and 11 assists for the Grizzlies.

Wall led the Wizards with 22 points and 13 assists as all five Washington starters reached double figures.

PISTONS 98, BUCKS 83

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - Andre Drummond had 20 points and 23 rebounds, helping Detroit cruise.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 21 points for the Pistons, who scored seven straight points in the final minute of the third quarter to build a 10-point lead. Drummond reached 20 rebounds for a second consecutive game, and this was his 10th career game with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds.

Tobias Harris scored 16 points for Detroit, and Marcus Morris and Ish Smith added 11 each. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 17.
