Well, I refuse to get my hopes up again after the recent disappointment with Ray Allen and the ridiculous contract given to Bobby Simmons, but here is the latest that enjoy my torturous life as a Clippers fan:

The Clippers have offered Cuttino Mobley the most money out of all his offers...but he is still leaning towards Denver.

:sad3:

We are currently in talks with Donyell Marshall. This surprised me, but he would be a welcomed addition. I just hope we don't get locked into a bad contract here for multiple years.

Mobley would be a great sign (Royalfan will agree here). Not only does he have great range (the Clippers were last in the NBA in 3's made and attempted), but he would start at SG and allow Maggette to move back to his best position at SF. He's no Ray Allen, but he is not far below Bobby Simmons. It would force Maggette to become a better rebounder which might not be a problem at SF.

Mobley can create his own shot and shot well from downtown (43.9%).

Here's to some luck! :toast:

Mobley is garbage.

Doesnt defend, doesnt pass, doesnt rebound and has bad shot selection.

I am not a big Mobley fan...I hope we don't tie in to a long term deal. But at this time, we need someone at SG.

I agree with everything you said about him. I hate his attitude too. He is a cry baby on top of all that. He and Francis made their games unwatchable for me as they would cry about every call in every game when they were together in Houston.

The one thing he CAN do though is shoot the 3. This is the biggest problem we have right now. We don't have anyone (besides Maggette) that can make a perimeter shot. While I agree that he takes bad shots, he still shot 44% from downtown. That would be a nice addition.

But replacing a great defender like Simmons with Mobley will definitely hurt us on the defensive end. I think it hurts in a lot of other areas also, but right now, we don't have anyone even halfway decent at SG.

I love Jaric. I really hope we sign him and match any offer (although it is highly unlikely). He is a great player when healthy. Not only that, but he can play both PG and SG and log minutes as the first guy off the bench at both spots. We have no depth at either position and it would allow 3 players to log the majority of the minutes at #1 and #2:

Livingston
Jaric
Maggette (if we don't sign a SG)

I will wave goodbye to Cuttino with enthusiasm. He was a freaking cancer on both ends of the floor. He would throw up ill advised j's all game long. Never see the cutter or the open man. He played out of control, driving into traffic and turning it over. Was he even on the roster when the Kings got bounced in the playoffs? He is a huge gambler on defense, always out of position, does not fight through screens or chase. Bad on switches, leaves someone open always going for steals or blocks. Will whine to officials while rest of team is getting back on D. They just dumped Christie and his wornout game, knowing Mobley was a tryout, free agent. We will see if Simmons is a one season wonder with that fat contract. I would hang glory hunter tag on Cutino with no second thoughts. Thanks for stopping by.

Best Wishes...OF:howdy:

i really wish they would have drafted Joey Graham. thought he would backup Maggette well and bring some much needed defense and high FG%

I agree once again...and reiterate, I am not a Mobley fan. In fact, I can't stand him.

At the same time, I am torn...do we go into this season without a SG and just hope to find something next year? Well, I wouldn't really mind that. I just know the mood around the team is going to be a disaster next season if we don't sign someone AND we let Simmons go.

That is not a great reason to sign someone...but it also is a franchise that is known for not spending money. It is a misconception, but it is still the reputation hung on Donald Sterling.

He offered a max deal to Kobe...he offered a max deal to Ray Allen...he signed Maggette and Brand to big contracts...if there is a player WORTH paying, he will pay them.

I am really worried that we will sign Mobley out of desperation AND to a multi year contract. That could be disasterous. It will be impossible to unload him via trade with his reputation around the league. It is pretty obvious with the little attention he is getting via free agency.

He was #2 on my list of the players that were available...I prefered Granger but I would have been happy with either of them.

I think Mobley fits them very well. Trust me on this Clip. You will learn to like him more if they get him. Pretty nice player that stays under the radar. Cannot overpay for him but 5-5.5 million he is well worth it. Probably command more than that though. I would call anything over 7 not worth it. Marshall also can do some nice things. If they landed those two, playoffs possibly in reach, but no shot at a title anytime soon obviously.

Plus one overlooked thing, is that he can get and isn't afraid to take the big shot late in games, which is something that club is sorely lacking.

I agree, BUT, taking big shots does not make up for not playing defense and having a terrible attitude.

I would love to have Marshall though. I think he has a solid all around game.

You're going to think I'm nuts, I really would rather the Clips sign Jaric and leave him at the 2 then sign Cutino. He's not bad there. More I think about spending big bucks for Mobley, the more I'm turned off to it.

Can someone refresh my memory on why his attitude is perceived to be so bad other that some reactions on the court? I think it is overblown a bit and while not a great defensive player he can be an adequate one if he and Dunleavy see eye to eye from the get go. He isn't called the cat for nothing. He is pretty quick and has quick hands. I still think he is the guy you need there under the circumstances if they bank isn't broke in the process. Marshall would be a good addition also if very little is spent. Too injury prone to spend much on.

The problem with Mobley as a free agent is I am pretty sure he is going to get a multi year contract. I wouldn't mind renting him for a year in our current situation, but tying into that guy for 5 years would make me puke.

I would much rather have Jaric there but Jaric will get more than Mobley (not that it should matter...we have plenty of cap room).

Jaric is a great player and will likely have a break out year next season wherever he ends up. He was impressive playing alongside Livingston the last month of the season. He is one of the most under rated players in the market because hardly anyone has seen him play.

Look at what he did after coming back from injury for the last month of the season while spending a lot of time as the 2 guard with Livingston at the point:

Only problem with Jaric is he gets hurt EVERY YEAR. But, he makes progress every year. Look great when he was healthy last season.

By the way, are they bringing Brunson back?

I don't think they originally planned to...but they might have to now. They are really running low at the guard spot. I would much rather have Brunson as the back up then Ewing as a rookie.
