Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins Clinton Portis expected to play
Coach Jim Zorn never expressed doubt about Portis' status despite all the missed practice. He'll start against an Eagles club that's given up just three rushing scores in five games and allows 3.6 yards per carry (seventh fewest in the NFL). Hopefully, you've already sold high on the declining back. October 23

Portis was "questionable" on the injury report, but was expected to start all along. The Skins' inactives are CB Kevin Barnes, RB Quinton Ganther, LB Robert Henson, LT Chris Samuels, G/T Chad Rinehart, WR Marko Mitchell, DT Anthony Montgomery, and DE Renaldo Wynn. DT Albert Haynesworth will start.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Coach Jim Zorn confirmed Monday that Clinton Portis (concussion) is "doubtful" to play in Week 10.
The Skins' offensive line is also being shaken up again, with street free agent Levi Jones taking over at left tackle, RT Mike Williams (ankle) out indefinitely, and former LT Stephon Heyer moving to the right side. The Skins won't open any holes in Week 10 against Denver, so fantasy owners are probably better off without Portis. Ladell Betts would pick up the start.

He probably won't practice all week. Teams are being more and more careful with concussions and Portis was knocked out cold in Week 9. The Redskins re-signed RB Quinton Ganther on Wednesday, a sure sign that they don't expect Portis to play in Week 10. Ladell Betts will start against the Broncos.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Clinton Portis (concussion) has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
Portis stayed at home Thursday as he continues to recover from the Week 9 concussion. Ladell Betts will draw the start against the Broncos, though he's nothing more than a flex play this week. We have Betts ranked as the No. 29 fantasy option at running back.

"He came in today. He still has a little, I don't know, if it was like a ringing in his head," coach Jim Zorn explained. According to the Post, Portis is a good bet to sit out another few games "at the very least." Portis will continued to be monitored, but it sounds like the Redskins are ready to use extreme caution in bringing him back. Ladell Betts (ankle, questionable) will operate as the lead back once he returns to full health.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>When asked after Sunday's win if he'll consider starting Ladell Betts over Clinton Portis when Portis (concussion) returns, coach Jim Zorn simply said, "No."
This could be a moot point if Portis ends up sitting out the rest of the season. You can be sure the Redskins will be extra careful with Portis after seeing what happened to Brian Westbrook on Sunday. Still, after seeing the game film Zorn should realize that Betts deserves a bigger role, if not the starting job, when both backs are healthy.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Clinton Portis referred to his concussion Tuesday as a "major situation" and said there's no need for him to "rush back" as long as Ladell Betts is playing well.
It's a smart stance by Portis, who is still dealing with the aftereffects of his Week 9 concussion. After seeing Brian Westbrook compound his initial concussion, Portis will treat his condition with extreme caution. There's no timetable for his return to practice, much less game action.

This was expected. Portis has yet to practice this week and is still experiencing the aftereffects from his concussion two weeks after the fact. We're not counting on him to return next week either. Ladell Betts is healthier this week than last and will carry the load against the Cowboys' strong run defense.

Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins Though he hopes to return for the Saints game in Week 13, Clinton Portis admits he still experiences blurry vision when he moves his head side to side.
"I could sit still and read everything you put in front of me," said Portis. "But when you move me and shake me around, that's when it happens." Coach Jim Zorn has already expressed doubt about Portis' availability for Week 13, and it's not a given that he returns to the lineup at any point this season. November 24

Portis will go to Pittsburgh today and be examined by concussion specialists. Jim Zorn isn't ruling out Portis for the season, saying "If he's healthy, he's going to want to go and we're going to want him to go." Portis won't return to a 3-8 team unless he's absolutely 100 percent.

If I can't, I'll go into the offseason healthy and starting off fresh next year." Shutting it down might give Portis his best chance to get his legs back. Battling a calf injury, bone spurs in both ankles, and seeming out of shape, Portis exhibited next to no explosiveness or power before his Week 9 concussion.

Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post writes that he "strongly doubts" Clinton Portis (concussion) will resume playing this year.
Coach Jim Zorn seemed fairly optimistic when asked about Portis on Monday, but the Redskins' offense simply functions better without him in the lineup. Thus, there may not be any rush to get Portis back. In their last four games, the Skins have played New Orleans, Dallas, and Philadelphia very tough and beat an 8-4 Broncos team. Washington visits Oakland in Week 14. December 7
