[h=1]Chicago Cubs interested in acquiring Yasiel Puig?[/h]Posted by: Evan Massey October 9, 2014in Cubs, Dodgers, MLB, MLB Blog, MLB Rumors

The Chicago Cubs are entering an intriguing offseason, and they are looking to spend some money and get back to competing for the NL Central division. There have been reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers are shopping outfielder Yasiel Puig around and want to trade him this offseason. According to other reports, the Cubs are interested in acquiring him if they can find a way to get him for the right price.
Are the Dodgers shopping Puig? You bet and the Cubs are one of several teams interested.

Puig would certainly be an interesting addition for the Cubs, but at this point in time it is simply preliminary interest. Chicago needs to acquire some better starting pitching, but the type of threat that Puig could be for the offense would be worth acquiring. That being said, it would all depend on what prospects the Dodgers would be asking for back in return.
This past season, Puig ended up playing in 148 games with the Dodgers. He compiled a .296 batting average to go along with 16 home runs and 69 RBI’s. At the age of 23, he still has plenty of room to grow and plenty of time as well.
Chicago showed a lot of improvement this past year, and it is realistic that they could compete next season assuming they spend a decent amount of money this offseason. Puig would be a nice step in the right direction, and it’s not surprising that Theo Epstein has interest in him. Expect to hear more rumors involving Puig as the offseason continues to draw closer.

I know that Donnie Baseball and Puig are like fire and water but I don't think the Dodgers will let him go.....dumb mistake if they do.....Puig is still learning how to play the game the right way and take advantage of his many skills.....

His strike out ratio is high enough to draw interest from the Braves

More likely is Puig traded to Marlins for Stanton

Miami has already said that Stanton is untouchable and he does not want to leave either so forget this

[h=2]MLB Rumors: Why hasn’t Yasiel Puig received any free agent offers?[/h]There is one rightful and newsworthy reason why Puig is still a free agent. The 30-year-old is facing sexual assault allegations and an ESPN story on the situation explains that this is indeed a factor in why teams may be avoiding him right now, and rightfully so.

That is something to definitely keep an eye on as MLB continues to investigate the allegations.
If the situation is resolved, Puig remains a potential option for the White Sox. They can sign him on a cheap one-year deal and instantly add a veteran to the lineup who is also comfortable in the outfield.
Puig last played in 2019 with the Cleveland Indians and should be fresh after a year away from the game. He has a career slash line of .277/.348/.475 and has never posted a negative-WAR season since debuting in 2013.

Having a surplus of options is never a bad thing and adding Puig adds veteran talent to an already stacked lineup. He would not necessarily replace Jimenez, but would indeed be someone Tony La Russa could count on in an everyday role.

Puig is facing serious allegations. If he is cleared, he should be on the White Sox’s radar if he isn’t already.
