Associated Press? No, don't you mean La Agence France-Presse. Most everything else is just repeating text from that article.
And who signed it, exactly? Last time I looked there were seven countries in Central America, so forgive me if I still call the Agence France-Presse article a hoax based on it's title of "Central American leaders agree on common currency". Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua don't exactly define Central America, they are nearly the weakest three economies of the seven. Arias didn't even attend, not sure who did.
Of course Paris is in love with Hugo Chavez, and also thinks his Sucre common currency idea is great. BTW Honduras and Nicaragua also want to adopt the Sucre, so which is it?
Argentina's about to default on their debt for the second time, Ecuador selectively defaulting on their debt, Venezuela can't survive with Oil below $60 per barrel and will be next... yeah, Latin American common currencies sound like a great idea! Might as well tie an anchor to your leg and jump overboard.
If Panama and El Salvador are worried about dollar devaluation, they're a few years too late, U.S. is facing 5-7 years of a deflationary depression, the U.S. dollar is growing in strength now, not weakening; but that's a subtlety of economics most people won't understand.
