no one is forcing you to get solar panels on your old home, this is for new construction
only and mainly affects builders. if you don't want solar panels on your home, condo, or
apartment just move into an older home. this is really no different that the federal
and state governments mandating fuel economy standards for cars forty years ago
and taxing gas guzzlers who didn't meet minimum fuel economy levels. maybe i'd like
to drive a v-8 445 horsepower car that gets 8 mpg, but if a lot of people did that the
air would be worse here than Beijing. California is at least trying to do something
about the environment unlike many other entities.

the reason people are leaving California is that housing costs, the cost of living,
and taxes are really expensive here. it is also quite expensive to do business here
which reallocates jobs to different states. the people who are leaving here are
being replaced by others (and not just illegal aliens). i'm sure we will retire to
a tax friendly state just so our money will go further (think of the movie downsizing).
if we had an unlimited amount of money we might stay as there are so
many things to do in California. I will certainly miss the sports, poker, entertainment,
and events when/if I leave here.

Nothing says boffo economic growth like restricting the supply of new homes and making homes more expensive.

I have solar in South Carolina, and paid by federal and state benefits, save about $200/month on electricity, still going strong..!!

How was your electricity bill so high that you are SAVING $200/month? Commercial property?

there is no new affordable housing in California with the exception of places that
people don't want to live in. most metropolitan areas are so built up that land availability
and cost is either non-existent or quite expensive. solar panels are not the factor
that will drive up the costs toward unaffordability. local taxes, other building
requirements, and for now a totally unbalanced demand/supply ratio are far more
of a factor. California housing has been sky high for many decades and this drive towards
solar panels will not be breaking point and as previously mentioned does reduce
monthly expenses which should help the value of the house. I get it that many don't
like government intrusion, but this is just the next logical step for a state with bad
air, electrical shortages, and brutal energy costs.

This is the entire point. The state is infringing on people's rights as homeowners. This kind of story is the exact reason people are leaving California in droves.

5th largest economy in the world and growing faster than the rest of US. 6% population growth from 2010 to 2017. Not sure what you are talking about.

it would be hard for a large population like California to grow at a rate of 4 percent like in the 50's. Great weather and jobs are a positives that will attract and keep people. High cost of living and the negatives of large population will not be a lifestyle for many.

I'm sure CA's state taxes play a huge factor too

Let me repeat.

The overall trend since 2009 is a declining growth rate in the state of California. I can't make it any clearer than that.

Ummm, first you said people were leaving in droves.

Do you know what declining growth rate means?

Population 39,700,000 expected to grow past 40,000,000 in 2019. Last census in 2010 population was 37,000,000. Grew by 300,000 in 2016.

Word

California economy now the fifth largest on the planet and this year the state reports over a $10billion dollar public surplus. Just over one in eight Americans choose to live in California. I am confident I will never live west of the Rockies but it's clearly a desired region to set up one's future

I have had solar panels on my house for 14 months...cost 50k. Financed through solar city...down payment...ZERO..first three months payment....ZERO...my electric bills with duke energy were averaging 370 a month...my savings first year,,,$1200....unlike my neighbors my bill will never go up...where is the downside...by a house with a 2750 a month mtg and 350 a month electric bill that goes up every year or one with solar panels and pay 3000 total a month....is anybody on here over the age of 10?....do u really spend time trying to find ways to pay more for things? U dont give a fuck about the air u breath. But u also want to pay more to pollute it?

It is different because building codes usually come from the county.

So if a county does it...then it is ok. Just so you know there are state building codes too.

You seem to make stuff up to make your point.

The original post was that it would add $10,000 to the average new home in California. Like you could tell the difference between a home that is $600,000 and $610,000. The add payment to the mortgage is less than the cost of electricity.

So now you have saved money and made the environment better. How could that be considered a dumb idea.

Because a shit hole of a liberal state is forcing everybody that builds a new home to do something they may not want to do.

I don't understand why liberals think their good ideas should just be thrust on everyone as if we all agree? Making everyone in your population conform with an idea is in fact, a dumb idea.

I guess saving money is a dumb idea.........kind of like your earlier brilliant statement of facts in this thread that they are leaving California in droves.

A "shithole" of a liberal state? Is that your idea of an intelligent comment?

You aren't addressing the real issue though. Do you think it's a good idea for a state to force things upon you? A simple yes or no will do.

It's like NY and their stupid soda law.

No matter what your opinion on solar power is, there are people that have property and money and don't want to be told how to build their home.
