Yanks are not dead yet. Not by a long shot. In trouble in the division but the wild card is very open.

Right. I won't think they're out of the playoffs until they're dead and buried and the last spadeful of dirt is shoveled over them (which i'm certainly rooting for).

They've been favored to win it all the last six seasons when the playoffs started; how'd that work out for them? Don't worry, they would get a chance to make it 7 straight postseason flameouts this year...:nono5: :nopityA: :nohead:

You honestly think they'll be favored to win the WS over the Red Sox come October? I'll take the Red Sox, Angels, and Mariners over them myself.

The Yanks schedule is easier down the stretch then the M's. Plus the Yanks have 3 at home against the M's. Wang-Pettitte-Clemens isnt too bad of a trio come playoff time.

You had them winning the division a week ago..............
I'm not giving up on the division, they've still got 6 games left against the Sox, and 32 games total, making up seven games isn't out of the question. Boston is on fire, winning 7 of their last 10. If they're getting shutout 9 inning wins from Wakefield, then the yanks are in trouble. One bad week for the sox and we're right back in it.

There's still a month left, nothing is locked up, that was my point to the donkey who started this thread.

Schedule wise

The real problem facing the Yankees is they finish the season by playing 15 or their last 22 games on the road (where they are 31-34 this year so far).

That is true Wil, but other then the 3 at Boston, it is against average/weak teams.

Terps1313 - that is a good point.

The problem is the league is full of average/weak teams.

Boston Red Sox entire September schedule (they finish with a 6 game homestand and only play 10 road games in September):

Only the Yankees are in any kind of contention - the Twins are 7 games back in the Wild Card Race and in third place in their division 5.5 games back of Cleveland and 3 gams back of Detroit. Possibly they could still be alive by Sep 27th for the playoffs but it's doubtful.

If the White Sox were 1 game out of the WC IN FRIGGIN' AUGUST you'd be ecstatic BLUE. Only 4 teams in all of bases have more wins than the YANKS ????? :ughhh:

cant say how happy i am to see these overpaid old guys in pinstripes miss the post season for once.

Looking ahead at the Yankee schedule, I don't think it is really all that tough as they have 6 games left with Tampa Bay and also Baltimore. Throw in 3 with KC and 6 with Toronto tells me that their final month could be telling the Yankee haters to quiet the cheering until the fat lady actually sings. I think Yankees will go to playoffs as a wildcard team. JMHO Does anyone know which Books have the prop of whether the Yanks will make the playoffs up ?

This is not the same team that was looking so pathetic before the AllStar break. This is a very healthy Yankee team right now and if they make the playoffs... they could and will give anyone problems. Not only are they the best offensive team in baseball but take a good look at their pitching staff. They now have Roger and they have added some very good young pitchers in Phil Hughes, Chamberlain, and now Ian Kennedy. Since their schedule is easier than Seattle who they are now tied with for the Wild Card spot, I think We will see the Yanks in the playoffs..... Not good news for all the Yankee Haters ! As for me... My favorite team is always the one I will make the most $$ on which right now is the Cleveland Indians !
