Of course the world should be concerned, but this is more of a problem within that hemisphere than The USA.

China, Russia, Japan, and India have plenty of money to buy this wacko out of power in N. Korea. If money cannot buy his head on a platter, than those countries minus Japan have plenty of troops to crush his army.

Besides, I didnt know USA and a select few other countries had a sole ownership rights to nuclear weapons.

Its about time for this country to realize this role its self-assumed role policing the entire planet is nonsense.

Probably alot more hype than truth to this alleged N. Korea threat....election is growing nearer, so of course govt will do its best to steer attention to elsewhere, and thus Americans will think less about the domestic problems.

I don't see ANYONE ELSE trying to prevent nuclear & chemical acquisition, besides a bit of useless talk.

While we were isolationists, world wars spawned & hatched. IF WE do nothing, NO ONE else will do ANYTHING...in fact totally the opposite: sales of weapons & technology will profilgate until too late to stop.

Once some lunatic has a nuke, the only option is to nuke him first, possibly taking out the planet too.

So yeah, let's let everyone do their thing & spread their germs unto others...just so we won't look bad for stopping someone 'who had not done anything yet'!!

But you know something? We will be excoriated either way:

1. Stop the madman before-- can't be sure he would've acted anyway.

2. Let the madman act in order to have sufficient proof / just cause-- why didn't we kill him beforehand...IF there's any one around left to recriminate with.

Korea wasn't called the Hermit Kingdom for nothing. They are an insular nation - N. Korea - w/ yet another nut as a dictator. They've used the threat of military aggression to get concessions from the West before...same hand being played out.

Any missile named Taepodong...is bound for premature launching. :puppy:

A friend of mine who's an ex-marine and happens to be a very smart guy, believes we shot down the long range missile.

i agree, they must be hurting for money again and want the U.S. to offer them a settlement in order to scrap the missile program.

Could be it was only airborne for 35-40 seconds and it went tumbling into the ocean according to NBC news it did not just go straight in.

South Korea is threatening to kick the door in and Japan is going to choke them out on the economic front. I suspect that this BS will end quite soon.

How many test missles does the US fire every year? I wonder how many missles the US has actually used in battle in Iraq alone? I don't think the US should be able to dictate what countries have the right to arm themselves. Thats what the U.N. is for.

I normally agree with "US shouldn't tell everyone what they should do" but in this case Japan and South Korea are not precisely happy to have (what is probably shitty quality missiles) flying back and forth near them

They ARE. Thing is, as I recall, a term of their surrender in WWII was that they are no longer allowed to have a military. The powers that won are supposed to watch over them, right?

Too much time has elapsed, and if the populace really had wanted a military, they would have it already/'the powers'd've acquiesced.

If you put that to a popular vote, i don't think their population'd ratify it.

First off, that was a term of SURRENDER. You don't get to have your populace vote on whether or not to breach terms of SURRENDER, no matter who you are. When you surrender, you say, I agree that I lose, and therefore I have to do this and you have to do this.

You don't get to change that crap with a vote of the populace.

Memories may be extremely painful, but I believe both them and the Germans are way beyond rehabilitated. Heck, they're more useful allies than the French, who seemingly will never be rehabilitated of their cowardice, selfishness, & double-dealing.
