That's why we have an over-militarized nation: The military is seen as a better career choice than going to college.

Try growing up in a rural area- intelligent or not, they all try out to be on Uncle Sam's team. How is this a strange way of thinking?

Frank,

Radio is still young and idiolistic. I don't fault him for that. I was that age as well, thought I knew better regarding every topic. Then as I grew older, the reality of life set in.

Sometimes in life, tough choices must be made.

Ugly, disgusting choices, with dire consequences.

But a choice must be made either way. Doing nothing....but just wishing and hoping for the best, is a failure on our part, in looking after our childrens future.

I see this choice, as OUR defining moment.

Do we let our country be mearly a pawn in the terrorists game..... or make the tough choice, against world opinion, and safe guard our childrens lives, and remove the threat to our freedom?

A tough choice, with brutal consequences.

But one that MUST be made.

another thing, old timer, how is diplomacy a failure to act? how is reason a failure to humanity?
Earth shattering eradication of the cradle of civilization is a FAILURE. Period.
We failed long before detonation of the first megaton bomb.

12 years of non compliance...is failure to act.

And how do you equate the removal of Saddam and his ruling governemnt from power...with the " Earth shattering eradication of the cradle of civilization " ?

bush jr. just feels obliged to clean up daddy's mess and secure interests that should have been taken care of by a sniper some 12 years before. Is this not crystal clear?
This is mercantalism at its finest. But consult history and the example of the British Empire will tell you that this system is faulty.

Answer:
removing saddam and the description of the bombardment of baghdad are two different options. So, in effect, I did not "equate" them. I would consider both different sides of altogether different coins.

Ok...I will rephrase my question.

If the U.S. removes Saddam from power, removes his alleged WMD , with U.N.. help sets up a democratic government with the approval of the Iraq people, then leaves......is that failure as well?

No...strike that question.

Radio,

What would YOU do, if you were the President of the United States, with the knowledge our government has, and with the burden of protecting it's citizens?

What would YOU do?

I will answer both.

Your first question: I have not seen a drastic effort made to remove Saddam, period.
Remember that the Inspectors are there for the WMD. Through the appropriate channels, the UN could have given Saddam the ultimatum to relinquish power, grant him asylum somewhere, because making him a martyr is not what we want either. (The CIA learned this with "el Che" in Bolivia). So no, the correct diplomatic channels and methods have NOT been exhausted.

Secondly, see above answer. Acting on one's own is one thing and I would respect a leader that did what was right though not universally accepted. But the impressive numbers against the US govt. in this war (foreign and domestic)speak volumes about our future isolation in this world.
In brief, DDA, I would answer what every president would answer and yet, at the same time disagree with all. Why? Because you ask me a question that I can never answer, a question designed for no one, a question of man what should only be contestable for a god. I would answer the same if you were to ask me what I would do if I had cancer. The question is impossible to answer. I would never choose to be responsible for a decision of that scope and I hope that you never find yourself in that situation either.

Silver,

Sorry, but I do not think that a mistake in grammar, or poor typing skills is a sign of ignorance.

If that is your only measure of a man and the worth of his views, I pity you.
