No problem. The primary reason I really delved into the D2 Championship is because I'm an IUP alum & was hoping it would be them in this Saturday's title game. West Florida was up 24-0 in the 3rd quarter before IUP made a game of it & ended up losing 27-17.

Fred if i recall you usually do really well in bowl games ?
I would never make that claim. Some years are good, some not so good. I'm just giving my thoughts on why I'm making a play. It might help with where you're leaning for or against.

Going all in on Oregon. Adding 2* more. Here's a summary of my plays:

5* Oregon-7(125)
1* Oregon -7 (-130)
2* Oregon -7 (-110)
Guess I should have waited, but really thought the line would go the other way. Just more great vibes out of the Oregon practices. Marcus Arroyo remains as offensive coordinator. Like Cristobal as head coach, also very effective and popular with his team. Has a strong relationship with Herbert, who is now being projected as a possible 2019 first round draft choice. Also, Cristobal's baby has always been the OL. He continues to coach them going into the bowl game. His coaches are making a big emphasis on dominating on the DL and OL, and that this bowl game will establish their identity as a team. Thirteen true freshmen have gotten some playing time this year, and the better ones will get more practice and playing time for this game. The coaches have also had the gag order lifted with the media so that the freshmen can talk to them. Just haven't seen this kind of relentless focus toward an early bowl game from a Power 5 team with a 7-5 record. I also think if Herbert hadn't been injured, this would be a 10-2 team. Freeman has been practicing with the Ducks, although it has still not been determined if he'll play. Maybe a lesser amount of carries?
* Have not or never have been a Duck fan, although they're everywhere here in Portland. Have bet against them plenty of times. One of my largest plays this year was taking Wazzu vs. Oregon. Risking all 5 units and more!

Good start. +5

Adding to my Oregon play,
1* Oregon -7(-130) Makes this a 6*. Duck players are going to play at their best for their new coach. This Taggart thing might actually work out for the best for Oregon. Cristobal was known for being an excellent recruiter at Alabama(part of their NC), and at Miami,FL.

1* Troy/ UNT- under 62 These early games are usually low in scoring unless it has two high scoring teams like WKU of the past, or Memphis -type teams. Troy has a very good defense that will likely shut down the UNT running game. UNT RB Jeffrey Wilson, their playmaker is out. Totally up to gamer, and little guy, Mason Fine. He is a tough kid who can make the passes to keep his team competitive. Unfortunately, many of those big plays were vs. a poor Army secondary, UTEP, Rice and other woeful passing defenses. Fine's OL is porous and he has been sacked 33 times, and hurried a whole bunch more. I think Troy will figure out and plan for Fine's better aspects. Troy's offense has struggled at times this season. Their senior RB, Jordan Chunn, tore up LSU, but then kind of faded late in the season. Troy has also had OL issues. QB Brandon Silvers is solid if not spectacular. More of a pocket passer, and has his better games vs. Troy's worst competition. Unknown: Troy's injury list and whether HC Neal Brown gets hired away someplace.
Troy missing two of their best receivers(and a backup WR) but also their all-conference CB. A wash? Pinnacle has the total down to 60, but others still about 62.

Looks like Freeman is not playing for Oregon. Still love the bet, just wish I had waited for the lower juice that it's at now.

1* Akron +22.5 Crazy line. Even with this line, about 60% of the bettors on FAU. But… FAU wins the conference, gets stuck at home in Boca, playing a mid-range team from the mediocre MAC. No travel, no sight seeing, no road team bonding fun. I don't care what the spin is, the FAU players can't be too excited to play Akron in Boca Raton. And with the fewer than usual practices, recruiting by coaches, and the usual home distractions, I think we'll see FAU win but not by this spread. Now Akron doesn't have much going for it. They did have an incredible back door cover vs. Toledo in the MAC championship game. But they don't have much talent. HC Bowden and observers have noticed their unusually great effort, and that they fight for the whole 60 minutes no matter the score. They beat a much better Ohio team, played Troy and WMU close, and won vs. a decent Buffalo team. There's a reasonable chance that Kiffin has been enjoying too much attention from the media or tweeting Saban, that Singletary gets fewer carries and that QB Driskel has an off game. Akron scores early, and I'll wish I had more.

Brooks-James is fine and is 100%. Tyrell Crosby, a future high draft choice is playing and this will be an inspiration to his teammates and community, which is Vegas, and is honoring the victims of the shooting this fall. Of the other guys, the depth on Oregon will be able to make their absence not a factor. Oregon will run the ball well with their 3 backs, but will miss Freeman's bulk on those short yardage plays.

Oregon is going to fucking roll.

I love seeing a majority of posters on a team like Boise. Guys, people posting Boise have never seen them play. They are shit.

I didn't say that much about Boise in this thread, but I can say that I've seen enough of the Mt. West this year and for many years past, and the last 2 years have been the weakest Boise teams going way back. SD State is the only team that is fairly consistent defensively, along with Boise. Defensively, the rest of the teams are usually shit. Occasionally one will have a decent D year like Fresno this year, or Utah State a few years back. The PAC 12 is not known as a conference known for defense, but there's no comparison in it being far better than the Mt. West. Take all that into context as to why Boise has had good records for the past decade. They have been well-coached, but they have also been poorly defended in conference play.

The PAC teams, like Oregon, at least have to face USC, Stanford, Washington, Wazzu, UCLA(prior to this year's terrible D) Arizona State, etc. and at least one tough non-conference team. Boise gets tested by SD State, and 1 or 2 teams that are having an up season- like Fresno this year. The Mt. West recruits anywhere from about 50 to 110 in the nation. The PAC 12 from 3 to 30 among the top 5-6 teams. Only Oregon State seems to be getting those players that would be in the lower half of the Mt. West. And so when I see a Boise team the last two seasons that has about 7-8 ATS losses in their conference, I know they are down from the great Boise teams of the past. If this game was early in the year, I would see this differently, but Oregon really WANTS this. I could lose, but it's a good play anyways.

Oregon is just unbelievably bad. It's like they never prepared or practiced.

Fred - I think a lot of us were duped by the Ducks. As you stated, they looked like they didn’t prepare at all. Very very strange. They should’ve lost by 40 if not for the end of first half gifts.

GL the rest of the way...

From what I'm hearing, the Ducks didn't prepare for the bowl game with anything outside their usual plays. very predictable offensively. Cristobal has a lot to prove after that awful performance, especially since all his players went to bat for him.

2* SMU -4.5 La. Tech depended too much on turnovers, and a few good offensive games vs. the likes of UTEP, Rice and NW State, to really keep up with SMU. This game being played in Texas, in a soccer stadium, with the new SMU coach, Sonny Dykes, on the sidelines(very unusual). SMU doesn't turn it over much, and has a nice blend of running and passing. SMU has struggled all year vs. the run, but I'm guessing they'll make LT QB have to beat them with the pass and crowd the line. LT QB J'Mar Smith is still inexperienced, and struggles completing passes. He gives LT the run option, and LT will be able to score. Just don't think LT will be able to cover the WRs and backs of the Mustangs for much of the game, and SMU pulls away at some point.

Were they supposed to install a new offense for the Bowl game??

Teams do what they do. They had a major shakeup in the coaching staff, had their star RB say fuck it I'm not playing. Then that same guy makes the trip, is on the sideline wearing a jersey.

It had nothing to do with using their usual plays, it had everything to do with coaching upheaval and a lack of focus. One team came to play, the other didn't.

Lack of focus for sure, but no one said anything about installing a new offense. Oregon was just overly predictable, running every 1st down, under-utilizing their downfield passing game, and allowing Boise to easily defend them. Boise came to play, and Oregon looked flat. The coaching situation was not a factor.
