[h=2]Will Grier, QB, West Virginia: The first big-name quarterback to announce he’ll bypass bowl season, Grier set personal career highs with 3,864 passing yards, 37 touchdowns (to only eight interceptions), and a 175.5 QB rating in his senior year at West Virginia. He’ll skip the Camping World Bowl against Syracuse. Grier, who some believe will be a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, explained his decision with a letter to WVU fans.[/h][h=2]Yodny Cajuste, OT, West Virginia: Cajuste won’t play in the Camping World Bowl against Syracuse. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2018 and a two-year starter on West Virginia’s offensive line.[/h][h=2]Donnell Greene, OT, Minnesota: According to the Pioneer Press, Greene signed with an agent after undergoing knee surgery for a meniscus injury. As a result, the senior left tackle will sit out the Quick Lane Bowl against Georgia Tech. The 6-foot-7, 320-pound Greene started 29 games in his Minnesota career.[/h][h=2]Germaine Pratt, LB, NC State: Pratt, an all-ACC selection, was second in the conference this season with 104 tackles. He missed the season finale against UNC while nursing an injury and now will sit out the Gator Bowl vs. Texas A&M like his teammate Kelvin Harmon.[/h][h=2]Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina: Whenever he’s been healthy Samuel has been a big-play threat as a receiver and returner for South Carolina. He finishes his career with 148 catches for 2,076 yards and 29 total touchdowns, including four kickoff returns. Samuel won’t play in the Belk Bowl vs. Virginia.[/h]
Kelvin Harmon, WR, NC State: Harmon led the ACC this season with 1,186 receiving yards and was tied for third with 81 catches. His 177 career receptions for 2,665 yards rank fourth and third in NC State history, respectively. He will sit out the Gator Bowl vs. Texas A&M.N’Keal Harry, WR, Arizona State: In three seasons, Harry totaled 213 catches for 2,889 yards. Both marks rank third in Arizona State program history. He won’t play in the Las Vegas Bowl vs. Fresno State.Justice Hill, RB, Oklahoma State: For his career, Hill rushed for 3,539 yards and 30 TDs on 632 attempts — all rank No. 7 in school history. Hill, who missed OSU’s last two games with injuries, will sit out the Liberty Bowl vs. Missouri.
[h=2]Rashan Gary, DL, Michigan: In three seasons at Michigan, Gary combined for 119 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. Gary, the nation’s top recruit in 2016, missed three games earlier this season with a shoulder injury and now will sit out the Peach Bowl vs. Florida.[/h]
Greedy Williams, CB, LSU: After redshirting his first year, Williams emerged as one of the nation’s top cornerbacks in 2017 when he intercepted six passes for the Tigers. This year, Williams totaled 33 tackles and two interceptions. He won’t play in the Fiesta Bowl vs. UCF.
[h=2]Ed Oliver, DL, Houston: Oliver, who declared for the draft before his junior season, had 54 tackles and 14.5 tackles for loss in eight games for Houston. He missed multiple games with a knee injury. For his career, Oliver totaled 192 tackles, 53 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks. He won’t play in the Armed Forces Bowl vs. Army.[/h]Noah Fant, TE, Iowa: In three seasons at Iowa, Fant caught 78 passes for 1,082 yards and 19 touchdowns. He could be the first tight end selected in the 2019 draft. Fant will skip the Outback Bowl vs. Mississippi State.

I cannot remember the last time a senior qb (who was not injured) sat out his bowl game. WV would have done a crazy showcase for Grier.

For those in bowl pools, i'm sure that Friday or Saturday is your deadline. Hopefully more dominoes fall this week with coaches changing and players announcing that they are sitting out so you can pick accordingly.

Between the players sitting out, coaching changes, and possible suspensions(the usual pre-bowl partying ones), it is precarious to make a play too far in advance. However, next season, the bettors will anticipate the players sitting out when the lines first come out. This is only going to happen more often… The shocker will be when a player sits out that is part of the 4 team NC playoff.

we should start hearing about the kids that flunked finals last week and this week and cannot practice or play in bowl game....

at some point might be worth hitting every underdog right when lines are announced then just play for middles. there are some monsters out there

  • Ed Foley will serve as interim head coach for Temple against Duke in the Independence Bowl (Dec. 27, 1:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
  • Foley was the interim head coach for Temple in the 2016 Military Bowl, a game the Owls lost and failed to cover.

Updated List..some of the more key players OUT

Offensive Players Sitting Out

  • Memphis RB Darrell Henderson: The Tigers’ leading rusher reportedly won’t playagainst Wake Forest in the Birmingham Bowl. He ran for 1,909 yards on 8.9 yards per carry with 22 touchdowns and finished 10th in Heisman voting.
  • West Virginia QB Will Grier: By far the most meaningful player sitting out for bettors — the line for the Camping World Bowl against Syracuse dropped from -7.5 to -3.5 with the news. Jack Allison, who began his career at Miami but has been with WVU for two years, will likely start. He’s thrown 10 career passes but was a top-200 recruit out of high school. WVU’s left tackle, Yodny Cajuste, will also skip the game.
  • South Carolina WR Deebo Samuel: A big-play threat on offense and special teams, Samuel caught 11 touchdowns this season and led the Gamecocks in targets (97) and catches (62).
  • Arizona State WR N’Keal Harry: Harry has been as consistent as any wide receiver in the country, catching 213 passes for 2,889 yards in the last three seasons. The Sun Devils are 3-point underdogs to Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl.
  • Oklahoma State RB Justice Hill: Hill has been the Cowboys’ starter for three years and averaged at least 5.5 yards per carry in each of them. He missed the last two games because of injury and will sit out OK State’s bowl game against Missouri.
  • Iowa TE Noah Fant: Perhaps the top tight end in this draft class, Fant will be missed against an aggressive and physical Mississippi State defense in the Outback Bowl.
  • N.C. State WR Kelvin Harmon: Harmon led the ACC in receiving yards and was a reliable target for quarterback Ryan Finley and the Wolfpack’s excellent passing game. They play Texas A&M in the Gator Bowl.
Defensive Players Sitting Out

  • Houston DL Ed Oliver: Considered one of the top prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft, Oliver will skip Houston’s bowl game against Army. The Cougars were average against the run this season (63rd in yards per carry allowed) but got gashed by Navy, another triple-option team, for 349 yards and 36 points earlier this season with Oliver healthy.
  • Michigan DL Rashan Gary: The No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2016 is NFL bound and will miss the Peach Bowl vs. Florida. Gary has 3.5 sacks and 38 tackles in nine games this season.
  • LSU DB Greedy Williams: Another likely first-round pick, Williams played just two seasons for the Tigers but had eight interceptions and 19 passes defended in his career. He’ll sit out the Fiesta Bowl against UCF.

There have been 58 bowl games with an interim coach since 2005. In those games, the replacement coaches are 28-30 straight up (SU) and 27-30-1 (47.3%) against the spread (ATS)

Interesting stat. Now we need someone who knows the program to let us know what that "interim coach" means to the team.

For example, we all knew SMU was a sitting duck last year when Chad Morris left and the coaching staff was stripped.

What I didnt know was the FSU interim coach was LOVED by his team and has been a coach there for a long time (i was told this a day or 2 AFTER their bowl game).

So for all the interim coaches out there, I wonder how much the team loves the interim coach

Thanks for the outstanding updates, Kaboom!

And with interim coaches, I would guess that defensive / running type teams did better ATS than offensive oriented passing teams... to me, again, a great opportunity is if an OC leaves and there is a problem with someone new calling the plays.

Also, wise to keep an eye on teams with future NFL QBs till kickoff who might suddenly be advised to sit out by their family & advisers/agents. I am suspicious of the Missouri line, top RB and lineman are sitting for Ok St but the line does not reflect that, is Vegas wary of Lock ducking out despite what he says?
